Long answer: There's several thousands of species of insects and arachnids, it would be too long to enumerate them all with their mating habits :p But there's a large range of behaviours from the male dying naturally just after the mating (most species of ants for example) to the male being able to live his (short) life until the end and mate with several partners. As for decapitating her mate, it's a thing observed in mantis.... but it's likely a bias from the observation, when they are kept in little aquariums they do that, but in nature the male have usually the time to retreat before the female kill him ^^

Emily said "true love would set her free". I liked that that was not marriage because love comes in many forms. Granted I am biased to not like many kinds of romantic love Victor cares about Emily, probably doesn't love her but at a bare minimum likes her as a friend. He cared about her enough to sacrifice his life for her despite having a life among the living, and Emily's realization that Victor would do that for her was what set her free. True love did set her free, it was just not the romantic kind of love Although, names could've been chosen better. Victor and Victoria kinda lean a bit on a tiresome soulmate cliche.
