I've tried it out with Occultist and Leper in team and I gotta say it was not that dangerous. Occasionally you can't prevent the Corpse Eaters from spawning but they are not hard to deal with and you can even use this mechanic for recovery. However, the run took me 20-30% longer because some fights were dragged out by so much due to this mechanic. And this tediousness sucked every bit of fun out of the run so much so that I honestly don't have any desire to run that thing again.

you are supposed to prevent it from happening at all costs regardless of chance, if you let it proc you already "failed" the gimmick

@@Distrugerea100yeah it traps you with the +speed “oh I’ll get the plus speed from stagecoach gear pet and run a super fast party and we’ll just mow everything down” and then you end up with not enough corpse clear. But it’s also an indirect buff to the general trophy, which didn’t really need another reason to be best in slot.

Question: What's the incentive of running Stygian (or any Infernal Torch) now? In DD1, Torchless yielded more treasure and so. Before, DD2 handed you more Candles (which was BS) But now... It's Torch-dependant buffs?

The game still suffers from one or two classes (Plague doctor and MAA) being necessary for consistency unless you want to gimp yourself for no reason IMO. You need one consistent stress healer for a consistent and adaptable strategy, so you're forced to pick either MAA or Jester. Additionally, for healing health, nothing else has the consistency and versatility in terms of action economy (healing/DoT removal and damage to the backline) that the plague doctor has, which means that you're gimping yourself if you don't have a PD in rank 3 or 4. 4 is usually a lot stronger because of team synergy - you want Jester in 3 if you're not running MAA, and alchemist (which is the meta pick path for PD) can't take the amount of hits that position 3 will be subject to. DD1 had similar issues regarding Vestal, but you didn't lock yourself to one specific party for an entire run across several regions in that game, meaning that it wasn't as much of an issue as it is in this game. It also felt more purposeful to do runs without vestal, because you'd usually do it to level up characters who needed the resolve XP. Also, occultist was a better healer in that game because you didn't have to risk healing only at 33 %.

Surgeon PD is a much better healer if you can get your backline damage elsewhere (usually sharpshot hwyman or ravager hellion)

So in essence, if you don't pick them (I wouldn't say MAA is as valuable as PD is though) you're just arbitrarily challenging yourself and not really trying your best to win, which makes the game significantly more casual. Any team is of course potentially able to win, but strategizing in both DD1 and DD2 was and is primarily about creating consistency, which is why stun, accuracy, and speed was so powerful in DD1. I liked that in DD1 you were often forced to run suboptimal parties, but that didn't carry over into DD2 unfortunately.

@@lazerax9 Which means you're stuck with PD + MAA for stress heals because you can't run Jester then. Which against brings me back to the whole game being centralized around two disproportionately powerful heroes. I'd also argue that the DoT-based damage non-surgeon PD outputs in *all* ranks (including both backlines at once) is significantly better than HWM, especially in early game.
