I'm 100% with Garcelle!! First, it is unsanitary, as she mentioned. That was my first thought. But then, it is mortifying and traumatizing. Families of the deceased need to be mindful of those attending the funerals, and stop being selfish of what their needs are. Kudos to Loni for stepping in and putting a stop to what that woman wanted. Trauma is a serious thing, and it could cause years of hallucinations and potential suicides. Families who want to do insane requests should also give the right to viewers to walk out of the venue and disengage completely from the funeral and them, for the sake of their own mental health.

It's not the norm here in Puerto Rico it's a modern take on funerals and it is a funeral home that specializes in those kind of arrangements. People are absolutely aware of this before coming to the funeral. And honestly we Puertoricans believe everything it's a celebration so it doesn't bother us that much, as long as there is a respect for the deceased.

Garcelle is the only person who has related the same experience as mine. I remember the FIRST time I saw a person in a casket. A week prior to viewing, this same deceased person was speaking to my mother in church. I was a small child and I stood quietly as they greeted and spoke to each other. A week later, my mother says to me, "come go with me". No explanation, no nothing. Just "get in the car". I had no idea where she was going. Nothing. Upon arrival to the unknown destination, I noticed it was one of those buildings I had seen from a distance that looked "serious". Upon entering the building with my mother, I eagerly followed her into the building and to the final destination. As we entered a room, fear immediately struck me because I recognized that this big "thing" in the room was a casket. As we moved closer, I saw the lady my mother was speaking to the previous week, laying there. I WAS TRAUMATIZED!!!! And I don't think I ever got over it. I will never , ever attend another funeral for my own mental health.

Sometimes culturally this is accepted & in South American or Latin American culture…. There’s pictures of people that have passed where they are dressed and standing up in a pose or even set up to take a picture with the family ! 3.) it’s not my business so I don’t care to give a negative public opinion about it cuz we don’t know what his wish was

I agree with Garcelle. I understand we all have different cultures but, people deserved to be warned. When we hear of serial killers having bodies or ashes in positions of a living person, we consider it unsettling and so is this. (And to be fair, I even find it gross when people take pictures with animals they just killed.) Also, after awhile these bodies developed a very strong odor. I can't imagine a child having to witness something like that. I get wanting to honor someone's request but, theres a limit. And you run the risk of traumatizing people to the point where the last memory of that person is the worst one. Wouldn't you want to show the person in there happiest moments. When they were alive Singing, dancing, talking, joking etc. By having this sort of farewell, people will only remember the way they died and not the way they lived.

I agree with Garcelle and Loni! First off, like Loni said, let someone know what they're about to walk into, in a situation like that because if you've never seen something like that (*I know I haven't! 🙅🏽‍♀️*), that can be traumatizing! And secondly, I agree with Garcelle 100%! Yes, everyone grieves differently and CAN'T NOBODY tell someone HOW to grieve, much less, for HOW LONG....but at the same time, in this PARTICULAR situation at a nightclub,...that's CRAZY! 😧🤦🏽‍♀️ I mean, I don't know what a dead body smells like but I would imagine an unpleasant odor coming from the body. 🤢 Plus, when a person dies, doesn't their body become really cold? At least that's what I've heard. I'm not sure if that's true or not. 🤷🏽‍♀️ That situation just seems so...unsanitary to me. I also agree with Adrianne. I've heard the same thing about people from different cultures propping their loved one's body up somehow to say goodbye. It's NOT something I PERSONALLY could bring myself to do. Personally, I've NEVER been to a funeral before. I've been to a funeral HOME where you look at different caskets and urns everywhere to see which one you want to purchase and THAT ALONE almost made me throw up 🤢! I had NEVER seen a casket up close like that and I wasn't aware how HUGE they were. I've never been to EITHER a closed casket or open! I've NEVER even been to a wake! When my mom died, she was cremated and put into an urn. I don't wanna judge this TOO MUCH because like Adrianne said, if the mom was okay with it and that's what her son wanted....it is what it is, I guess. I just wish people that were coming would've known beforehand and given a heads-up.
@Niki91-HR

Normally a dead body becomes cold and stinks horribly. Never experiences that but learnt that in biology class. But I guess there are methods these days that prevent the smell and probably they use the process of embalming to make them look the way they looked like when they were alive. But I am no expert though. My first funeral was last year when my grandma died. And I am 31 years old. I always had a fear of that and honestly freaked out before the funeral...and for some reason it wasnt as bad as I thought it would be...perhaps because I mentally tried to distance myself from it and I didnt have a typical grandchild -grandma connection with her and her death didnt hit me in an extreme way...and she was already 90 so it was also a matter of time when she will pass away. But the thought of funerals and death in general still freak me out...especially when I think about that one day I have to attend my parents funeral. So I completely understand you.

If it was up to me, I wouldn’t have seen my mother in the casket and the man who put her there. I will never forget that image and when they lowered her in the ground. I knew my life would never be the same and that I was going to have to live with my abusive father who tried to treat me like he did her but I fought back as much as I could. No father or husband should treat his wife or daughters the way he treated us. A devil that had pure hatred for women. All I could think in that moment was God took the wrong one. It’s not fair. It really isn’t. Bad people who commit crimes should pay. He couldn’t wait to abuse me, he couldn’t control me and always hated that I was a fighter.

I'm sorry that's how you had to grow up. 😞 How long did you last with your father? Did you end up running away or calling the cops on him or fight him back until he left you alone? It just sounds so scary knowing he couldn't wait to abuse you next. 😬 How old were you?

@@roxannerodriguez7075 My brother and I tried running away at 16/17 he called the cops on us and I called the cops on him right back. The man clearly has no respect for women because of his mother. He's been arrested several times and still continues to beat on women, not as worse than my mom, but he punches women in the face and tortures them and claims he has a right to by the Muslim religion he's in, it just gives him an excuse to be abusive because that religion is not like that. Maybe in earlier times but he has no respect for women. I left while in high school my senior year. He never worked and was possessive over me just like my mom but I called the cops on him too and BCW but they didn't do much. He's verbally abusive too and a narcissist and feels he has a right to talk down to women. He could never control me and that was his problem. I tried as a teen to keep the family together after my mother passed, she begged me too, if anything every happened to her but I Ieft I wasn't going to put up with his abuse and blaming me for everything when im the child and he the parent. My brother left at 18 he blamed me and came wailing at me with a belt just because I didn't get him to come home., I was 17 at the time...they had an argument the night before and I wasn't even there but he expects me as a woman to defend him and stick up for him when he's always wrong.. His while thing was you're not 18 yet so I can say and do what I want... I proved him wrong. He's a devil. He enjoys beating and being abusive towards women he's been doing it his whole life. He preys on women too. People like him should be locked up, 11 days was too short.

Like Adrianne said here in Puerto Rico funerals like this have been taken place however it's not the cultural thing or normal thing to do. There is a funeral home that specializes on those kind of funerals, we have seen a corpse playing dominoes, standing up, sitting on motorcycle or four tracks etc. But it all takes place at the funeral home not at a house or a nightclub for sanitary reasons. It's a modern thing of our culture not the norm.

They used to do this in the 1800s take portraits with the family and the deceased and prop them posing with family members. Photos in the back in the 1800s were very expensive and very for the elite so usually when they had a photo it was of a wedding or of a deceased.

We’ve been told, “work out your salvation with fear and trembling,” do people think it’s a joke? We’ve been told that the road to heaven is narrow.. it’s not comfortable or easy. We’ve been told to be not of the world, but to be set apart. If the world loves you, then you are of the world. Even in death the focus, and remembrance of this man’s life, was on earthly things that never really mattered, and mean less than nothing now. People always like to say, “they’re in a better place.” Not everyone goes to heaven..but it’s not God that puts us outside of it..our own choices do that. It’s a sad sight.
