If Jeannie Mai was here she wouldn't have laughed at Victoria. She would have been sensitive about it and she would have brought up the possibility of eating disorder. They said grilled fish so that eliminates all the ways it could be prepared. But there's still some variation like you said.

Yessss!!! As a Latina we are always told to settle, to start out with the low pay bc at least we got the opportunity.
@somethoughts43632 жыл бұрын
Another important aspect to consider regarding Latinas being the lowest paid is the language barrier. This affects immigrants in other settings as well. For example, we’ll receive lower quality healthcare and endure racism because we don’t speak the dominant language. Going into banks and trying to navigate how to receive loans when no family member is there to advise you because of the first generation/ immigrant experience.
@sparklesp93042 жыл бұрын
I mean, you can't expect the same pay when you don't meet the qualifications, though. Speaking English is fundamental to being an American as it's a formerly British colony. I'm not saying that it's ok for people to dehumanize people who don't speak English, which I have observed, but it's also disrespectful for anyone to move to America and not learn and adopt the language and culture. Other countries aren't tolerant of it from Americans and we shouldn't be either from people who immigrate here. The same standards of respect need to apply worldwide. If you move to a country, you assimilate into the culture of the country and give proper respect to it. I can understand a tourist not having a firm grasp of English, but not a person who's moved to live in the States. It's HIGHLY disrespectful. I'd NEVER move to Latin America without being fluent in Spanish, and so conversely, I expect Latinos who move to the US, an Anglophone country to learn English fluently before choosing to live here. However, who SHOULD be mad are the 3rd and 4th generation Latinos that get treated like they're invisible and the people whose families literally were in the Southwest US when it was part of Mexico. They were here before all of the immigration from Europe in the 1900s, yet are still alienated and othered, so to speak. They ALSO deal with being alienated and disrespected by first generation Latinos FROM Latin America as well, which I've also witnessed, even to the point of getting passed over for jobs.
@somethoughts43632 жыл бұрын
@@sparklesp9304 I will help you out with your ignorance here. Many Latinos are the lowest payed DESPITE being bilingual over yt people who can barely speak English coherently. Further, immigrants who are trying their best to learn a second language should still be payed a living wage for doing some of the hardest work and overlooked work. The entirety of America depends on immigrant work, and that should be reflected in their wage. Most importantly, why should an indigenous person be treated like an alien or be told to learn a language from a colonizer instead of the other way around. That is HIGHLY disrespectful. I’d NEVER colonize, genocide, and enslave a group of native people then expect them to learn the colonizers language and adhere to their “rules” while rewarding an Anglo-Saxon who waddled on into this land with less qualifications
@freppy062 жыл бұрын
@@somethoughts4363 I'm sorry no. Latino wages are low bc they work low wage jobs. Wages are equivalent to irreplaceabilty,, and the truth is that latinos tend to work very replaceable jobs. Hard physical labor is not invaluable, but at the end of the day virtually anyone can do it. If you want more pay you need more specialized qualifications e.g. doctor, lawyer, engineer etc. Sorry no one ever told you.🤷🏾♀️

Adrienne saying Victoria is "focused" for eating the same thing, just sounds like complimenting possible eating disorder. They are laughing at an eating disorder, people should be more sensitive than this.

I’m just gonna go ahead and say it… MENTAL HEALTH ! I’m not sure what it is about people in the black community especially men when we hear the the thought of going to counseling ! In every aspect of the word we want to feel like we’re in control and if we go get help for whatever issue it is we’re dealing with the shame of not feeling in control stops us from getting that help ! And I’m telling you rn being a person that has helped so many of my friends get to a place where they come to terms with issues and actually voice them… admitting is the first step getting some real unbiased , board certified help and even if means getting with people that understand your experience that have that degree and title to go to so u feel heard ! Then please do it ! I don’t wanna see any more of our babies or adults on a headline saying they committed Ykw before it’s too late

she's not starving to be skinny wtf. fish and veggies is a healthy meal. honestly i eat pretty much the same thing for breakfast and lunch everyday too. some people just aren't foodies. food is a utility for me and it's easier to just eat what i know i like everyday. jeeze

I know nothing about Victoria so I can’t speak on her,however I feel like when people see someone eating like this they automatically think disorder or starving to be skinny,when there are actual people who don’t enjoy food like that,I’m one of them,if I eat a big meal I’m done for the day,I feel gross,I feel lazy and bloated and lack energy. I would much rather eat a healthy meal at the end of the day. The taste of food last for like a second but food that fuels my body I feel the effects the entire day. Not everyone sees food as pleasurable,some people like Giselle said “just eat to survive” and feel good throughout the day,I think that’s actually a really healthy relationship to have with food and many things in your life. Being dependent on anything is a horrible feeling.
