Corrado Door Handle Fix

Today we take apart our broken Corrado door handle and install one of the machined aluminum repair kits ... how hard could it possibly be??!!

But I'm a special kind of crazy.

Sorry, yeah - that's certainly a different problem... usually when the end bolt comes undone & falls out. The left side is just a regular bolt, but the right side uses a left hand threaded bolt, which can be a pain to source, if yours is lost.

You should use a Passat passenger rear handle with the Corrado striker mod and removes the key hole and the need for one more key. Sweet video.

I seriously considered that EXCEPT I work on a Naval Base where there's so much radio frequency interference from military equipment that car key fobs often won't work, and you need a physical key to get into your car.

@@CliffjumperCars I know the feeling. I kept the driver side with a key for that same exact reason. Awesome video.

Just a tip regarding the door catches, I've had success using pieces of heat shrink tubing that fits over the large end. Once it's over the large end you can heat it up and if you have the correct size it'll fit perfectly in the spot the old plastic one was in. I used a thicker more plastic feel heat shrink so it would match the original plastic thickness. May make a good video. Simple and cheap hack.

That’s a great idea! I will be happy to give that a try and see how it works. I may have to even do something similar on our Sequoia, which has a similar worn out door handle, striker/latch problem.

@@CliffjumperCars Yeah, let me know what you think. We’ve actually met, I’m VR62NV on Vortex. I had a Dragon Green ‘94 back in the day and set up the Peterson Corrado gtg. I ended up buying Lee and Chi’s old purple ‘93 and also got a black ‘93 because I’m a glutton for punishment. Haha

The problem is that you replaced it with the same junk that broke. They make a replacement one that is made out of a different material

Absolutely true about the "replacement" handle that I installed a decade ago. It was a spare survivor from my G60 Corrado that I slapped on there temporarily, and I never got around to installing the stainless steel billet machined repair kit until now.
