Closed stance on leg stumps with back foot slightly behind helps me bring bat down in straight line. Open stance is not good for hitting straight or cover drives . Its only good for bowlers coming tound the wicket Its all trial and error, do what works best for you

Yeah no. This isnt great advice. Particularly regarding opening up the shoulder which naturally causes you to become square on. It also forces the bat to come through on an angle to the trajectory of the ball. Agree on a slightly open stance however after that I think he's wrong on a number of fronts.

Yeah, whenever i try this i find myself edging balls a lot more even when they're straight

I always felt more comfortable if I get my noise pointing in the direction on the ball. For me, it meant having a slightly open stance
