My starting pay for police was 89,000 a year base, for CO is 85k as of January 25 which is crazy good. Top step is over 100k. Sergeants make about 50-60 an hour for those that want that. Our COs as of 2025 range from 41.08 to 50 and hour and Sgt from 53 to 60 and hour.

I have worked in federal law enforcement for 15 years now. I have worked for 3 different federal law enforcement agencies to include the BOP (Bureau of Prisons). Now my 2nd cents: The BOP is one of the lowest federal law enforcement agencies as far as pay. Federal correctional officers are paid at the GS (GL) 5-8. In comparison the CBP officers are at the GS 5-12 and that’s a staggering pay increase. Even Border Patrol is GS 5-12. So keep that in mind if you want a job with the feds as a CO (correctional officer). Now the bad news. The retirement as a federal law enforcement is the lowest versus a local or state law enforcement officer. For example in Florida a law enforcement officer or a state correctional officer will get 70% of their salary for a pension after 20 years but a BOP officer will only get 34%. So yes as a BOP correctional officer may get more pay but in the end you are on the bread line when you retire. So if you want to be a CO for a career I suggest you get a job with the county sheriff’s office as a CO or the state as a CO. Remember it’s the end game you are working so hard for. So yes the BOP CO can make 6 figures working nonstop overtime but is it really worth it when they will only give you 34% of your salary after busting your ass for 20 years (they do not count the overtime when calculating the federal pension) when you could of worked for the Florida department of corrections or at the sheriffs office as a detention deputy (CO) and get 70% of your salary (they do count overtime for the pension) when you retire. Think real hard before you make the wrong choice. I will retire as a GS -12 pension but will still make less in pension than my best friend who did 20 years as a local detention deputy (CO). Stay far away from the BOP due to the lack of training, the low moral and very low pension. I mean COME ON!, the BOP academy is only 3 weeks and their firearms qualification course the officers only have to shoot at the 7 yard line and this is embarrassing. There isn’t even a physical fitness standard at the BOP. It is very common to see an officer well over 300lbs working inside a housing unit 😂.

I worked NYC-MCC for three years. That's where Epstein killed himself. The uninitiated think the federal system is pleasant. They're wrong. Please look at the Brooklyn MDC videos. The warden murdered her husband there. The workload, staffing, and conditions were brutal at times. The NYPD wrote us parking tickets because they hated us so much. One ticket was a day's pay. On the midnights, I watched 188 inmates by myself. That's when we cooked 2 meals (1400 trays), did building maintenance, got inmates ready for transports, and counts. Mandated overtime was always on the last-minute notification. I began to hate that job so much; I was delighted to leave. Night differential with the new agency was 12% of base pay. I just retired (6 weeks) at 70%. Plus, I can sell back unused sick, vacation, and PL time. The maximum is about 400 days,

Damn it's good to see another brotha who I am like-minded with.making a monthly budget and paying myself first by Investing in retirement, real estate, ranches, Roth IRA, stocks (and physical gold & silver for me 'hint-hint' lol). And living below our means. 37 here, never married and only one child who will be grown soon. And I love stacking up some good money and traveling the world when I finally take vacation. And i'm still enjoying these broads but never giving them a dollar, until I marry someday. I digress.. I just got out the military with 100% disability from the VA (as we spoke about in your other video) and already have my daughter's college paid for via passing down my Texas Hazlewood Act to her (from joining the Army/military in TX). One other question I have for you is: Is there ever any down time to do small tasks like read a book while on shift? Of course CO's should always be excelling at their tasks; rather it be scheduled or not. I am hoping and planning to get hired at a min sec location and I wonder if I will have any time to do college course work while on shift. Or is that a common No-Go? If such a thing is possible, I would prefer working nights, as I used to manage luxury hotels overnight and was able to do course work. I'm a year away from getting my 2nd degree in a field that coincides with law enforcement, and will be heading to law school next year... My bad for the lengthy comment/questions. I'm that guy who researches the hell out of my next career and life move like crazy so I will know what to expect and have a easier time. The Army was a breeze for me, even as a Designated Marksman Cav Scout in a Infantry honor platoon; all because I picked brains. Stay up bro, Thanks

@@TheGhettoBodybuilder that's what's up. Thank you... And I just recieved an official interview appointment today via email. It's for FMC Carswell. So doing so at the mental health women's facility is probably going to be twice (insert your own views here lmao)... But I hope they will be cool with me doing overnight shifts, or swing shifts. I plan on putting most my money into retirement accounts. Any day I get down I will remind myself of the 🎯 target. I have 10 years to be fully vested. So I will retire at 68 with my house paid off. No car payment. Social security. Rental income. For the first time I’m not afraid of being elderly and poor.

yeah, i seen people get hired on with the feds that worked as a security guard. That counts as a year of specialized experience. Don't work harder, work smarter. He's talking about working back to back double shifts. Those are long never ending shifts. You are owned and imprisoned. That's working harder. Working smarter is getting promoted and moving up rank. Getting specialized training. And going to college to learn something else. The better idea is to work less and make more money.
@TexasMade9035 ай бұрын
Have you ever worked in a correctional environment? You are not owned or imprisoned. I work tons of overtime and never feel that way. Once I get off my regular shifts, I normally do overtime at the local hospital babysitting an inmate while watching Netflix or might take an inmate to an outside medical appointment. Trust me we are not doing any hard work. However, you do have individuals who make the job harder than it's has to be.
@christineribone93515 ай бұрын
@@TexasMade903 I think you know what I meant, you don't sound like a dummy. My point was not to work a lot of hours to get more money, but to work less hours and get big money. That's what the word "harder" infers to. As to the intellectual challenges the job entails, its not rocket science. No offense, that's why there's basically no college requirements. But it is emotionally stressful working in a violent and dangerous environment where anything can happen.
