The coolest part about the solar eclipse is that the reason their two sizes match is pure coincidence. The sun just so happens to be about 400 times bigger than the moon and also 400 times further away. That's why they fit together like puzzle pieces during an eclipse. Really beautiful.

9:37. One problem with that.... you're testing with infrared, which is NOT what's going to kill your eyes when you look at the sun, that's UV. Second.... that's testing with the infrared signature of a person, and not THE SUN.

@rutchjohnson7 жыл бұрын
It's red because the ND filter paper cuts down only a certain portion of the light spectrum. It leaves infrared light still passing through. Which i can only guess it's not good for your eyes lol. You would also need an infrared filter to cut down on all the light past the red spectrum. Stay safe my friends

Those are 12 shade masks, they still can damage your eyes if you view a full eclipse. To truly protect yourself you want 14 shade where you literally can see nothing but the light.

Rutch Johnson ultra violet light is the main cause of damage to eyes but I agree, not sure if those Nd filters did much to help

Incorrect. If you can see red light then it is not infared. Infared light is not visible. Sometimes, seeing red light can imply that infared light is also present, but it's not guaranteed at all.

It was funny at first, but now I'm legitimately concerned about Niko's "sleep everywhere" thing. I used to have daytime sleepiness all the time, and figured it was because I had insomnia. I know everyone is saying that the eclipse was "underwhelming". But every time I've seen that said is when the person wasn't in the path of totality. This is one of those cases where 99.9% coverage is totally different than 100%. When it's 100% (aka in the totality path) it's breathtaking. Sam knows what I'm talking about.

so, Infrared is on the low energy side of visible light, it's not really a problem. The danger from the sun and retina damage is from Ultraviolet light, which is on the high energy side of visible light. The dangerous part of the eclipse (outside of totality) is that the visible light is lowered (which hurts your eyes to look at) but there is still enough UV light to damage your eyes (which you can't feel). No idea if that ND filter is dark enough or blocks UV light at all, but it looked much brighter in that camera shot than the recommended solar viewing glasses or welding glasses. Hope you guys are ok and didn't look too long.

My mom and I only had to drive 2 hours with traffic the day of (should have been 1hr 15min) to be right in the path of totality! It was DOPE! She had the brilliant idea of going to a SuperWalmart parking lot in Cleveland Georgia and it was perfect because there were only a few locals tailgating in this field right along the parking lot facing the eclipse! We also got classic Eclipse Boiled Peanuts because you've got to in the south.

Sam you guys should get Sennheisers Ambeo mic and the new SoundDevices mixers to actually capture ambisonic audio. setting up a stereo capture system like you are is great but can be difficult to achieve in a "run&gun" shooting scenario. The Ambeo mic has 4 ch output straight into your mixer (need 4 inputs) and you can take those straight into Sennheisers free ambisonic software for mixing into your videos. very versatile, fast, easy, and reliable.
