4:46 actually hange points out titans weigh less than just a human made bigger, but the colossals still weigh quite a bit EDIT for those coming to argue in the comments: In s1e15 at 18mins30secs or chapter 20 page 23ish Hange literally says something that size shouldn't be able to stand. If you think it's just after they die then you must've missed this line. EDIT 2 because I realise my wording sucks. I'm saying they're not as heavy as if flesh and bone of a human was simply scaled up, which is what Wren was calculating. I'm not saying it weighs as much or less than a human. I'm just saying it's less than he calculated jeez people.

Titans, by themselves, are actually really heavy. It's when you separate pieces of themselves that you notice the body parts that should be heavy really aren't. So basically, whatever is sliced off of them doesn't weight much. But if they stay intact, they weight as much as a 15m human.

Eren showed the other paths he "could've" taken, like running away with Mikasa, but it wouldn't achieve his true goal: letting his friends live long, happy lives. To do that he had to not only paint them as heroes by having them kill him, but let them kill the worm/origin of Titans, breaking the curse so that Armin for example wouldn't die due to the curse of Ymir.

Yeah I haven’t gone in depth on why I hear a lot of people hated the ending themes. But I think it’s because it doesn’t have a hopeful ending. Eren’s whole thing was freedom and in the end he essentially became a slave to destiny so he prioritized which destiny he would be enslaved to and became the villain in order for most of his friends to live long happy lives. So I feel some people may say the ending contradicts the show’s theme or think it’s a bad idea for such a popular show to be ending on such a pessimistic note that maybe humanity is doomed to destroy itself and there’s nothing we can do to stop it, just delay the inevitable. But I actually like that because it’s how the author must feel. And even though he thinks it’s pointless that doesn’t mean you have to give up. Armin and the others kept striving for peace. And they failed but they still tried. All while knowing it was almost certain they’d fail. I think the author wants the audience to take our race’s inevitable demise seriously. Instead of giving us a happy ending in the show where everything turns out ok forever. That’s comforting. But if you wanna make people get up and move you don’t need to comfort them you need to make them aware of the urgency and inspire them to do something instead of thinking it will all just work out in the end. Idk I’m probably butchering the message of the show 😂 but that’s what I took from it.

I do remember some attack on titan lore where the scouts picked up a titan arm and it weighed considerably less than expected. Could have an effect on the weight calculations. Although the wall titans still leave craters at their step, it's been established that titan bodies are extremely light relative to their volume.
@Dexuz
@Dexuz 10 ай бұрын
While Titans are lighter than they should, they're also *stronger* than their should, as we see when Eren in his Titan form picks up a giant boulder that, proportionally speaking, would be impossible to lift for a human (a character points this up even). So it's entirely possible that the wall Titans purposely stomp very hard, thus leaving those craters.
@dami-dnc
@dami-dnc 10 ай бұрын
@@Dexuz Indeed 😳 I didn't think about that.
@RedFloyd469
@RedFloyd469 8 ай бұрын
@@Dexuz Maybe, but I don't really think they do. It's never really implied to be the case. Either visually or in dialogue. When eren commits to a strong physical effort, he usually shows it by making big winding movements with his arms. That is to say, he applies pressure like a normal human being would, except in titan form. The walking rumbling titans, in comparison, look like mindless robots just walking without intent. We saw this when Hange took out a bunch of them. They barely reacted to it. They behave much closer to pure titans, except driven by the single goal to "keep moving forward". There is also no indication whatsoever that Eren gave them a "will" of their own or any other orders than to simply keep moving. If they were intentionally "stomping very hard", we would see them lifting their legs much higher or physically pushing down, making a squat-like motion. But we don't see that at all. They just move forward. Frankly, they simply don't have to. Lighter or not, they're still immensely huge. A normal, 15ft pure titan walking already crushes buildings and people. A 60 meter titan, or 50 meter for that matter, would simply not have to do any effort to do immense damage. Around the technological advancement of AoT, there really is no need for anything more powerful than that.

I mean you can not believe in a deterministic universe where the future is already written all you want but the fact is you were always going to not believe that. It was already written. The ending does make me wonder why they didn't design giant weapons for Eren. Their blades may shatter against the collosal titans hide but if you add allot more mass to the blade combined with the muscle power that is swinging it, it would absolutely demolish the armor. The closest we get to this, and it WAS very effective was turning Piek into an anti titan tank.

Even in the series, Marley notes that advancing technology risks rendering their Titan advantage obsolete. Airships with barrel bombs and heavy cannons were already putting the 9 Titans at risk. Ain't no way Modern Earth has to worry.

Regarding Eren's fishbone titan, yes. He walks like a caterpillar. About the legs, that's anime invention. In the manga, his legs are smaller and hanging like tail, making them useless while Eren fully used his ribs as legs. Speaking of which, have anyon question HOW Eren can cross the sea easily? Is the water between Paradis/Madagascar and Marley/Africa not that deep (yet still deep enough for the collosals to swim) Lastly, 9:15 the doomsday, no longer about the Rumbling, but about the concept of "weapons of mass destruction". Yes, by their era, their WMD is the Rumbling. Centuries later, it's the nuke. _plays " To you, 2000... or 20000 years in the future" part "Crimson Arrow"_

Great video, I'm glad you took notice of how the wall titans are 10m underground. However when calculating the number of titans, you considered the 3 walls to be perfect circles. 4:27 shows that in the anime the walls are not smooth circles, but imperfect ones. And in the manga there is a zoomed out shot showing them even wobblier. So although it's impossible to calculate, I think there is a much longer total length of wall than you thought. And thus more titans 🙂
@bhesseling9949
@bhesseling9949 11 ай бұрын
I'm not sure about that. The walls just look wobbly because they are ALWAYS 60 meters high, even on mountains and in valleys. Its perfectly possible they are perfect circles, but the variation in elevation just makes it look messy
@loganshalloe5927
@loganshalloe5927 11 ай бұрын
I could see that being the case, just based on the shot I timestamped. But the manga version of the shot makes it very clear, they are not perfect circles. Google "attack on titan walls" and look at the top result from AoT wiki. It shows the manga page I'm talking about

Really really love your "speech" there in the end. One of the important theme in AoT as well. We may face some darkest and a bleak time, we may feel hopeless for the future, we may think what we've done or what we're about to do is pointless, but despite all of that, we must try, we must try to change our "fate", we must not give in to our fate (Vogel im käfig). No matter how hard it is, we must fight and try.

That is indeed the central message. What Eren apologists don't realize is that the self-proclaimed determinism of the cosmos that Eren believes in, is a fatalist excuse. He became a monster the moment he gave into it. He had plenty of choices, most notably the one where he doesn't genocide the whole planet. Armin is the real gigachad for actually struggling against it no matter what. He chose diplomacy, peace, understanding and the beauty and joy of life, over the fatalism of so many around him. It doesn't matter that hundreds of years from now, humanity might nuke itself to oblivion, just like what happened in the anime. What's important is that he, right now, does what he can to make the world a better place. We in fact see this literally play out in the least subtle way, when Armin is confronted with the old titan users in the paths, all of them having given in to the deterministic despair that Eren was also in. The moment they rejected that fatalism and embraced the beauty of the world, they could fight back against Eren or Ymir's influence. Reject the cringe Eren emo phase mentality. Embrace based Armin philosophy.
