Very informative video and easy to understand. I work with aluminum and this video is perfect for explaining to friends and family how Aluminum corrosion happens. Many people I have talked to have this idea that Aluminum is the same as Stainless Steel when it comes to corrosion resistance. Thanks for putting this together and posting it.

Awesome dude, im working on stripping and sealing my honda d17a1 valve cover. Some lesions, but about to seal it with high temp engine primer and metalcast paint to slow the corrosion.

I guess that's why they say aluminum is "corrosion *RESISTANT* " rather than "corrosion *PROOF* "; I always thought that aluminum metal doesn't corrode at all because of the protective oxide coating.

Thank you so much for this interesting and compact video about aluminum alloy corrosion. I recently [fled] California and moved to the Midwest. I got a used Jaguar with an aluminum alloy body known as RC5754. I was quite concerned about the amount of road salt and dissimilar metals (75% of the car is aluminum). So I got an application of Rust Check which was originally developed for the aviation industry to protect from salt. I was doubting my $175 yearly application thinking its a waste of money. But now I see aluminum and aluminum alloys are far from corrosion proof. So I am happy to have discovered this video. So if you own a Jaguar or Ford F-150 or some other aluminum body vehicle? It is always wise to get it protected with something like Rust Check.

How would I protect aluminum that is exposed to frequent abrasion . I need a substance that I can spray on it periodically. Will an oil spray work?

I have a question about this sort of corrosion on my cast aluminium sewing machine. It is a very good machine except for the corrosion on the bed. Can I remove the corrosion and repaint it and, how should I do it. What should I do next to prevent further corrosion?

Well, there's always chemical etching. Etch it down past the corrosion to the base metal. There's always blasting. But, you could smear metal OVER the corroded areas, which would just keep on corroding underneath. On airframes, aluminum is nearly always alodined, primed, then painted.
