How is the shelf mounted without leaking through an hold bunch of junk on it?
@mjremy26052 жыл бұрын
Excellent! Just what I wanted to know. No rust, and soap scum is minimal. Must be harder to clean though with the grooves. I want to do this for my RV bathroom. I can add a tile floor but its better to do a removable shower pan in case. The trick to tiling wet applications or moving vehicles is to use Polymer in Thinset and Grout, both. No tile ever comes off. Tiles should be under 2 inches in length as well. I wonder what you used to seal the bottom ledge where it meets the shower pan tile?

Nick, thanks for the update! My wife and I are trying to do this to a basement shower that was originally a dry-locked cinderblock enclosure with a concrete floor (60s basement construction!). We're going to use a waterproofing membrane on the walls and floor and then tile the floor, but do corrugated metal panels for the walls as you have. Are the corner drip edge pieces still necessary? Can't seem to find brushed aluminum or galvanized steel pieces like you used at HD.
@nickydoes4 жыл бұрын
Colby, here's the drip edge I used: Internet #202092840 Model #15553 UPC Code #099137234501 Store SKU #417394 www.homedepot.com/p/Gibraltar-Building-Products-2-3-4-in-x-3-in-x-10-ft-Galvanized-Steel-Drip-Edge-Flashing-15553/202092840 77 in stock at my local Depot.

It's brilliant. Ugly as sin but I can't see why it couldn't work as well as expensive panels or tile. I'll paint the panels if I decide to go that way. Or maybe use the plastic panels.

So, no odor of mold that could happen behind the metal from condensation due to humidity and temperature changes? This is my number one concern.
@nickydoes4 жыл бұрын
Insulate the stud cavities behind the shower with fiberglass .Condensation happens when warm, humid air circulates onto cold surface. The insulation eliminates circulation of air, and maintains the same temp on both sides of the metal.

@@nickydoes thank you. It's been about 10 years since I needed to know this stuff so I'm a bit rusty. I have your initial video saved to watch I just haven't had the time to sit down and do it yet.

I would like to do this around my tub you said you used a foam behind the plastic part were knob is what foam did you use? Do you think the tub surround adhesive will work to adhere to wall better than nailing? I was thinking of sitting it flush from tub to ceiling and using clear caulk completely around tub do you have any better suggestions or tips not in video? Thank you kindly

I used these "closure strips". They're wavy on one side, and flat on the other. Perfect! Did the tin keep its shine. I used same type tin to line my dasement living area but only to a height of 30 inches. Problem I had was keeping the shine. The oils from hands made dulling smudges and nothing I found cleans it to bring back it's shine. Thanks Bob K.
@nickydoes4 жыл бұрын
I'd say it's reasonably shiny. Vinegar will bring back the shine of galvanized metal.

Can I ask if the little corner shelf is painted steel or pvc? Working on putting one of these in but going to need to put in a shelf or 2.
@nickydoes3 жыл бұрын
It's PVC, made from two pieces of 6 in wide trim edge glued together with PVC cement, then cut into triangles. The brackets are Strong Tie 3-1/4 gusset angles (GA) here: www.homedepot.com/p/Simpson-Strong-Tie-GA-3-1-4-in-18-Gauge-Galvanized-Gusset-Angle-GA2/100375243

How did you mount the shutoff knob so it is sealed to keep water from running behind it?
@nickydoes Жыл бұрын
Hello Patti, the mounting was normal. The sealing was more involved. I had to fabricate the covers to make a flat surface for the faucets. I used these foam sealing strips to keep the water out. www.homedepot.com/p/Palruf-36-in-Horizontal-White-Foam-Roof-Closure-Strips-5-Pack-92521/100049309

Do you have active ventilation in the bathroom? And/or are the panels sealed off at the top? I'm debating doing this but I'm a little worried about steam making it behind the panels and then dealing with moisture collecting.
@nickydoes3 жыл бұрын
The bathroom is ventilated. Most codes require a window or powered ventilation for bathrooms.

What did you do to make the hot and cold stem stick long enough with the tin being rippled how to make the handle turn?
@nickydoes2 жыл бұрын
The faucet you install must be able to work with a wall at least as thick as the wavy corrugations. Most faucets have a spec sheet where this dimension is shown.
@reneehurley31002 жыл бұрын

The shower faucet trim screws hold the panel against the corrugated metal.
