This is one of the realist conversations I have heard about this situation. To hear CGP talking about current events specifically was really nice. Both of you acknowledging how important this all is is really calming. Makes me feel like we are in this together. I love everything you both make and have been with you both from the beginning! Cheers to 100 more!!

I know everything is not normal right now, and not even Cortex can escape that - so I figure this is a good time to just to say how much I appreciate this pod. It's always a very calming space to come to and regroup, to reconsider how I'm organizing my life, and to get a really good laugh sometimes. So thanks for your guys's work, and thanks for keeping things going in the nightmarish hellscape that is 2020. ~Sending thanks from Canada :)

Been unemployed for the better part of 2 years and yeah "just got here but feels like I've been here for 2 years" is common. I'm just glad I follow KZbinrs who post on certain days of the week. I find it tough living with others and because of Quarantine I've found it even tougher to deal with than before.

time: it feels as if time is both stopped and in in fast forward , at the same time , my only reference is not in days is in what i do day to day , i finished a book during this quarantine now i am reading another book and i am thinking about before the end of the book and afther the start of the other book , i eat licorice and i think divide time by what pacage of licorice i am eating from , somenthimes i am putting up timers in which i don't browse the internet and point them out on my diary , i go trought the day by beofre during and afther those no internet timers . space: it almost stops existing , i don't think anymore about the space in my apartment , i think about what i do in my apartment, so i don't think about the kitchen i think about food , objects like my phone books and my diary , are almost a part of me at this point i can almost pin point them in space at any time . productivity : lowered , it was low before but now i can't be botered doing anything , whenever i start anything i'll do it in alternated days both because of the wibbly wobbly time and because this feels like another dimention , it feels completely detached from the world before the quarantine . mentality : it's weird , i sometimes feel very misantrophic angry , other times i just spill out what i know at random and other times i am a maniac that reads ,sees videos and plays at universal paperclips for some reason , and it's like the most avid consumer of media the world has ever seen , i feel like three different persons and different times , i'll have to reunite them afther this as all ended , also i am really into space right now , iv'e bought star wars but i am not watching movies any more , i should however . edit: wow this was the first cortex podcast i've listen front to back and it has given me some ideas for the quarantine , thanks guys ...

But... that is exactly what I do. I don't dance, I just put music on when I do things and I just... bounce and move with the music.

Yo. First comment on KZbin so yeah whatever that entails. I found this at a weird time in my life, where I was going to be moving all the way across the pacific and was almost recovered from COVID, having been quarantined for five days. The first few months, nay years, have uprooted my very concept of daily life, and I found that I was floating around aimlessly. Then I went into the equivalent of high school where I live, and I felt I overcompensated far too much, joining all sorts of extracurricular activities and draining myself. COVID happened, and I had time to ‘recuperate’, but I had so many unanswered questions. Your frank exchange helped me realise that even KZbinrs as far away from me, all the way in the UK, face the same issues and that allows me to find solace in the fact that I’m not the only one going through turmoil. I find myself unintentionally nodding to the things Mark and Grey said. Thank you for this podcast, cheers!

My schools solution to this problem was if you don’t have anything else to do stuff all your time into schools work, I have 24 hours of work a week,(90*2*8/60) in this case and I’m constantly stressed

I recently rewatched the Zero Punctuation on Animal Crossing: New Leaf, and I agree that it's one of the best ones (Sim City and Final Fantasy 13 also rank high). I don't like games like AC and Stardew Valley much, because in the absence of a clear goal I tend to start aggressively min/maxing, but it's pretty clear that you're not supposed to do that because of all the different activities the game throws at you. My Farmville farm was just a giant field of soy because that was the most cost-effective crop, and I kept unlocking all these decorative props and I didn't understand why you'd buy them since they served no functional purpose but did take up limited space.

I like how often y'all say "Tuesday" on the podcast, I'd make a compilation if I had the time. ETA: if y'all are interested in Animal Crossing but don't own any video game consoles, there's a phone app called Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp. It's rudimentary compared to New Horizons, but it's a good entry point into the franchise and it has its own charm. There's even a 30 day free trial of an additional service where you can have a little animal assistant follow you around and collect things while you're gone. It improves the game play quite a bit, though I wish it could be a one-time purchase rather than a subscription. I don't know if I'm going to continue after the free trial, but I've been making an increasing number of matching outfits for the two of us and I'm really going to miss my anteater buddy.

32:00 Being from Kansas this made me think of hiding underground when there's a tornado. As a kid I admittedly loved it, bundling up with blankets in the basement even though some houses and farms are getting uprooted. There was a comedy sketch I watched talking to yourself from the start of 2020 that said "oh this'll be horrible... not for you, you'll be fine but for other people"

First off, you guys are awesome and I love this podcast. I have been catching up on episodes from last year to now and it has been great! I listen while I work and it helps me focus, interestingly. Second off, the shownotes link in the description does not directly link to the shownotes page. It just takes you to the cortex main page because the episode number does not appear to be included in the link. I've noticed it in a lot of previous episodes as well, so I assume it is because hyperlinks are automatically created for URLs put in the description, so maybe KZbin is just neglecting the episode number at the end. I'm not sure how much you can do about it, particularly if it is an automatic thing, but maybe it will catch the number if you put another forward slash at the end.

why did they use new normal so frequently? what is with "new normal"? it fell like a weird expression to me
@bartz0rt9284 жыл бұрын
A lot of these rules will have to be maintained to some degree for a long time in order to prevent a new outbreak. Probably until a vaccine is developed. So things like working from home more and keeping more distance in public, store clerks wearing gloves and face shields or masks, those things will continue for long enough that you'd better start thinking of them as normal.

How do you think this affects black creatives in a way that you don’t have to worry about? We need white people to talk about this, please.
