Cortez the Killer is one of the very top tier rock songs ever imo. This was a phenomenal cover of it in terms keeping the vibe of the song with some great additions. 10/10.

Just an absolutely moldering version of Cortez. I would do anything to convince Mascis do a version of Powderfinger in this lifetime. His voice and guitar and that ballad would send me to the moon!!!

Had a chance to meet J, Lou, and Murph in Charlottesville, VA about10 years ago. My wife and I were making a weekend around their concert at the Jefferson Theater. They were all so chilled out and super-nice. Literally ran into them in the middle of the street after they had done their sound check. Couldn't have been nicer. Of course, I was totally geeking out, and losing my shit, but they were all super-cool.

Some day I’m gonna need to see J and Doug Martsch have a contest to see who can wail the best solo to this song while remaining totally indifferent.
@thelegendarye24303 жыл бұрын
Doug , could write it prettier I think. But j could probably play it harder I guess. He plays more notes than Doug, but I think dougs phrasing comes out more beautiful, especially in the studio.
@predeterminedmeat50247 ай бұрын
@@thelegendarye2430IDK J's phrasing is a large part of why he's so loved. The solo from Start Choppin is as good as it is from how he wails while doing it
@thelegendarye24307 ай бұрын
@@predeterminedmeat5024 he has his moments for sure. Id just make the argument that Doug’s are prettier. Not saying better just prettier. They are both incredible just in totally different ways

J Mascis covering Neil Young is a beautiful thing. I think J forgot the second verse...i love the way J amps up the loudness and distortion during the final refrain of "He came dancing across the water. Cortez. Cortez. What a killer!"

J Mascis, master of the jazzmaster!
@chadinfinitum14117 жыл бұрын
That's the reason I own one. I love the Jag (my favorite) and Strat, but the Jazz is sweet. Also very affordable. Big F-U to Les Paul for making his stuff so expensive. I used to dream of being Jimmy Page, but you can't get real a Les Paul for under $1K.
@chadinfinitum14116 жыл бұрын
Do you play an instrument, do you write, are you creative, or do you just hate? It's not my place to judge anyone other than the impact that they have made on my life. Jimmy Page might not be a perfect human being, but who is? He wrote some of the best music I've ever heard on albums like "Houses Of The Holy," and "Physical Graffiti." He's spent the majority of his life out of the public spotlight minding his own business. I was calling out Les Paul for overcharging for his guitars . . . how did you take this somewhere political? You do realize that you have no control over the government or the world around you . . . no, obviously you don't. Your vote doesn't count. The president is just a figurehead . . . or have you not figured that out yet? Focus on your life. Be a good person, have gainful employment, support your family, and if you can find it inside yourself, enjoy some good music when you hear it if you're not creating your own.
