While pulling the starter out, the battery cable nut was loose enough to spin off by hand. The stud in the solenoid was loose and the material around it corroded. Also noticed that my starter was a junkyard starter when it was all the way out. My initial issues were, slow/no crank, click once as well as no hot start. Tested the battery and a few other things before go to the starter as well.

Man, I've been fighting this issue since I had a shop do my head/cam/tune. I haven't been able to get anyone to give me a solution, mostly just "deer in the headlight" look and some rambling about replacing the battery or starter. Your "fix" makes perfect sense and I'll be doing it very soon, THANKS!!

do not have the Z06, but after looking up no start issues on a base C6 the trick on getting the starter out helped a lot. i kept trying to twist it out wrong. also of note my new Ultima Starter (Oreily house brand) came with lock washers. maybe they watched your video and figured it would help save on warranty claims. of note for other base model owners you have to take off the cat to get the starter out, there is no way around it. spray the bolts with pb blaster and do it multiple times a day or 2 before the job and then day of the job and exhaust bolts come out like butter.

Did you have to loosen or pull the exhaust out of the way?

no

For your info, the “lock washers” are not those , the ones you refer to are split washers! And they are not used anymore by people in the know.

If I did it over I'd go "high torque" starter if one will fit.

2016 Camaro 1SS with 6.2 liter V8 - Bad heat soak problem. Anytime over 85 degrees air temp
@1947froggy3 жыл бұрын
So you are talking about restarting right? Gotta insulate everything you can so starter does not get heated up like a bad barbeque. Make sure battery is big enough, go bigger if you have room. Short trips with multi hot starts was especially my issue. Post back, try those.

Few years later... did this fix your problem?

Been fine since then, still I think gm cheaped on the starter. :)

I have the dreaded hot start issue. Cranks with the first time, depress clutch and crank again and first time it cranks. Wonder if it’s tuning issue.
@1947froggy2 жыл бұрын
Doubt it, starter should have been a high torque & battery bigger. Do check the stuff in my videos. :)

@@1947froggy I’ll try my best I’m not the most handy really but I have a buddy who knows his way around the cars. Start was replaced at 31k miles Car has 57k. Optima red battery, was going to upgrade alternator and ground cable To 0 gauge to see

@@JacksonLewis9947 What I have finally done, after I replaced the starter and put all the insulation in, I still had a slow crank when the engine was HOT. Cold engine start was pretty normal. So now I put it on a charger overnight, to ensure battery is at full charge at least once a week. My problem is exacerbated by mostly short trips I make. Short trip means I don't drive far enough to recharge the power used up to start the car. Your idea might help some if you do short trips, maybe higher output alt will recharge batt faster. Post back what you do, maybe I will too. :)

@@1947froggy yessir once car is back from Headers I will Do alternator and 0 gauge ground cable I heard this will be night and day better. Also put mine on a trickle every time it’s parked and that definitely helps keep volts in the low 14s. Will keep You posted!

I am just taking the Exhaust manifold off. I can disconnect the 3 nuts that the manifold on my 09Z car has at the CAT pipe to manifold. That's my plan
@1947froggy4 жыл бұрын
That should work, you only need a little extra wiggle room. :)

Froggy, Can the power bolts be tightened without loosening the exhaust manifold?
@1947froggy5 жыл бұрын
Maybe, with small hands and the right wrench(es). I had to loosen the manifold, made it easier & was not a big deal. :)

Froggy, do you still have this car? I been throwing money at it since I bought it. When I fix something another thing breaks. My queen has 27,000 miles.

I still have mine, not driven much as I drive my c6z. What's broken?
