An apartheid askari has told of the murder of an MK member - allegedly by ANC commanders. Tlhomedi Mfalapitsa left South Africa in 1976 and joined the ANC in exile. He underwent military training, was deployed on missions into South Africa, and ended up at military headquarters in Zambia. eNCA's Masego Rahlaga is following this story. Courtesy #DStv403

Did he act on his own behalf? Would he have had an alternative to obeying to the orders of his security police superiors? Askaris were frequently murdered if they did not comply. Meanwhile mass murderer Wouter Basson who was involved in weaponising viral infections like HIV and drugging the population is still living a comfortable life practising cardiology in Cape Town. Go after the real culprits, those Vlakplaas and SAP commanders who are ultimately responsible for these atrocities.

Looking at the history it looks like Tlhomedi Mfalapitsa went to the TRC. So therefore I'm surprised that he's being strung up at this stage. It's a horror what he went through, and not trying to justify him. But thought that the TRC would have put these old wounds to bed. Without knowing more I assume this is a civil than criminal case, and therefore why it's being brought up again. There are far more vicious people to go after than this guy! Go after them and prosecute those who didn't go to the TRC!

If he applied at the TRC regarding this exact case and got amnesty than yes, but that doesn't seem to be the case. Applicants only received amnesty regarding the cases they admitted to, not a blanket amnesty. The main issue here: originally the cases with no amnesty granted should have been prosecuted immediately after the TRC, but this has been postponed until now. Meanwhile the victim's families never received justice, only in the recent few years families managed to force courts (via private prosecutions) to finally deal with these longstanding cases. There was the Ahmed Timol inquest and inquests looking into the deaths in the hands of apartheid security policemen of Dr Neil Aggett, Ernest Dipale and Hoosen Haffejee for example.
