Cosmati Wood Inlay Banding - Part 2

The Cosmati wood inlay banding is glued up in part 2 of this KZbin woodworking video. Watch how the wood segments are fit together to form the wood inlay banding log.
See how the decorative pattern of the Cosmati design comes to life in this episode. You will see the woodworking method for gluing and clamping as demonstrated by the woodworker. Cauls with applied packing tape are used to distribute even clamping pressure to all glued segments. The clear packing tape protects the cauls from being glued to the banding log.

Very important question. A white glue is used to allow for an extended open time. The white glue also dries clear. The actual glue being used is Elmer's Glue All. It has its advantages over yellow glue when gluing up wood inlay bandings & parquetry.

i notice on some of you more simple desigs that there are small gaps in the pieces. is that your fault or is it just too hard to close all the gaps......but i also notice that there are almost none on the other designs.

Phillip...there is no fault. 1.) The wood inlay bandings & parquetry designs that are shared with you are made by a human and not a machine. 2.) Also keep in mind that many of the video shots are of close ups and the gaps are exaggerated. 3.) What you are referring to is not the finished project...It's only the banding for the project. Trust me on this...When you see the finished project, you will not be seeing any gaps. Closing the gaps is a skill. It requires practice & experience..
