It’s not the best video for someone to be introduced to these books as it includes a lot of general info without making a deeper focus on the most basic things (explaining the most important planets, how each magic system works, how the books are structured) and though I know that’s not the purpose of the video I'd personally love to see that with the artistic and technical quality that this video has. There are some inaccuracies that have been pointed out in other comment but I still really enjoyed it. Loved to see the artist interpretation of each shard and the depiction of Hoid is just amazing!

Read it! You can start with some standalone novels like Elantris or Warbreaker which will not have a sequel in the foreseeable future.Alternatively Mistborn Era 1,then the Stormlight Archive and it's novellas (with Edgedancer and Warbreaker after Words of Radiance and Dawnshard between Oathbringer and Rhythm of War) and leave Mistborn Era 2 and Elantris at the end.Then you can read Arcanum Unbounded which reveals some spicy story details so it is best left untouched until the end :)

Very good introduction. This was a nice way to get a new perspective on the Cosmere, especially with the brilliant artwork. The Cosmere truly is one of the most expansive and exciting universes I've ever seen. From first reading Warbreaker to then finding out that a character from another planet showed up in another series was eye opening. Then to find out that every very different magic system all derived from the same source and set of rules was fascinating
@whyonthefall53732 жыл бұрын
@@steelshanks1265 I mean, I'm assuming some of the broader concepts, but the individual magic systems seem quite unique. I'm not knowledgeable about magic the gathering, but I do know brandon likes it quite a bit, so feel free to let me know of the comparisons (Also, keep in mind that this is just a short overview of the overarching stage of the Cosmere. Wow! And amazingly produced video. I'm super glad you made this; more exposure for Brandon Sanderson's Cosmere is always a plus in my book. There are a few inaccuracies in the video, though. Most of them are nitpicks, so I'll only point out the important ones. * Spoiler Warning* 4:35 Magic systems can exist on words without shards and are more a property of how investiture manifests on any given world. Shards do often change the pre-existing magic systems. 7:35 The implication that mortals inhabit just the physical realm is wrong. A normal person (there are exceptions) exists in all three realms at once. The physical scenes experience the physical realm, the mind experiences the cognitive realm, and the spirit (also known as the spirit-web) exists in the spiritual realm. Note: you can move your physical body to the cognitive realm by various means. 7:40 The spiritual realm is explicitly NOT the afterlife (it's way stranger than that). Brandon Sanderson explicitly wants to leave the question as to whether there is an afterlife up to interpretation. The name for the hypothetical afterlife is "The Beyond". Here is where Brandon discusses it *MAJOR SPOILERS* wob.coppermind.net/events/406-general-reddit-2020/#e13765 15:50 You note here that ambition was once on threnody ( Ambition was shattered, and the vessel was killed); this is correct. However, you didn't note that the same thing has happened to Honor on Roshar (as of Rythem of War). The vessel of Domination and Devotion were also killed; however, these shards were shattered uniquely. 17:10 The 'Survival Shard' is a complex one. Brandon hinted at a shard named along the lines of survival back in 2011. However, we don't know if this shard is one of the shards raveled after Brandon's hint, or whether it's one of the two shards we don't currently know the names of. Also, not all shards are associated with a planet.

Very nice video, as a big Cosmere fan I am looking forward to this series. But I might have a few nitpicks and additions to the information(Spoilers ahead): - A Shard named Survival is not confirmed, it is just fan speculation, as is its connection to Vax(which we know nothing about). - Devotion and Dominion have also been killed and Splintered by Odium, their Investiture leaking uncontrollably into the Selish cognitive realm, making it a very dangerous place. - The Shards are actually primarily residing in the Spiritual realm, and its clearly distinct from the afterlife(the afterlife is the beyond which is totally unknown). - Would call Autonomy more expansionist rather than isolationist as she is claiming more worlds, creating semi-autonomous Avatar Gods from her self. The God on First of the Sun, Patji, is one of her Avatars for instance. -Virtiousity is another confirmed Shard

Such devotion by this channel to the expansion of its growing dominion, performing many acts of preservation against the ruin of forgetfulness, avoiding acts of odium, maintaining an attitude of fantastical cultivation and showing much honor to the stories it tells, it's endowment of knowledge a pleasure to receive, with greater autonomy and growing ambition perhaps one day allowing escape from the spectre of Raid: Shadow Legends and other cringe ads, the invention of Patreon and increasing subscriptions furthering this goal, with nitpickers showing mercy to small errors and writers demonstrating valor in continuing their work despite the increasing pressures of reality, the whimsy of its exploration of great tales providing great variety, which will ensure survival for many years to come.

Great video, but fanboys gotta nitpick: -First of the Sun IS invested. The islands of the Pantheon are all sentient avatars of Autonomy. -Roshar is actually smaller by Cosmere standards, being only 90% the size of Yolen, the standard. However, it only has 70% of Yolish gravity, an extremely high-oxygen atmosphere, an absurd concentration of raw investiture, and cultivation's intent facilitating quick evolution, so everything on it is quite large. -There is no Shard with the Intent of "Survival." There is a shard whose primary concern is not investing themselves in a planet and carving out a realm therein, but simply escaping Odium's wrath.

My favorite series is Mistborn, but this seems a lot more complicated than I was bargaining for. I'm on the last book of Wheel of Time and was planning on taking on the Cosmere starting with Elantris next. I'm hoping this won't be like Dune where things are made unnecessarily complicated.
@corbanbausch90495 ай бұрын
It is complicated, but not in the same way as Dune. It’s not nearly as philosophical, and it wears its themes and ideas on its sleeve. You rarely have to worry about being confused in that regard. Though you should be warned that EVERYTHING is important in some way, that character you read about for a single paragraph in your 1000 page book may just be the main character of some other novel 10 books later. Also, the magic system has a lot of moving parts and is extremely self-consistent, there are whole wikis dedicated to just the magic of the cosmere. Sanderson was a science major before he was an English major and it SHOWS. His magic is practically a science, to the extent that you can make theories about what would theoretically happen if x magic were to interact with y thing at z location.
