Glad you both enjoyed this one. We were very pleasantly surprised by this one. While the mechanics are simple and it plays quickly, the number of interesting decisions over the eight rounds makes Cosmic Colonies bit more thinky than it first appears.

21:00 Wow that "collect from each location" card is so poorly worded. My logic was that you'd still have to consider the Carry limit and collect only *up to* 5 (regardless of how many piles are tied). Still a powerful ability. I had to check the rules, and couldn't find anything. Finally I found the answer from the publisher on BGG: "Yes, up to 5 resource from each location that is tied for the most" (it's still ambiguous when quoted out of context, but it resolved the dilemma in the actual thread.) All in all, your assumption was correct.

Thanks for the playthrough and review. It has an “Onitama” feel by giving the card you just played to your opponent.

Just ordered this one today. Been waiting for it to arrive in Australia. I have a special section of my credit card reserved for games recommended by you guys 😜

A space themed version of BaronPark or that garden one (can’t remember what that one is called) with a rule/game tweek,,,, that’s what it seems to me.

We just played a three-player game tonight. It felt a bit mean - it was a race to get the tiles. The person that taught me the game said that there were more tiles available at higher player counts (so you could still get a tile that someone took, but it'd cost a bit more). It feels like Onitama + Tetris to me. I think it's an interesting game, but I felt mad a lot of the time I was playing. :D

Minute 32:33 -> Naveen shouldn't take Green Resources from Supply because he use the Worker to do BUILD action (not COLLECT action as stated on the card). CMIIW

Great video! Will you choose this over Cloudage?

Hi Jose! They are VERY different in terms of weight, mechanisms, and style, really. Honestly though, yes we both agreed that we would choose this over CloudAge

This is a good light weight game, easy to teach any new gamer, yet has enough fun factor for experienced gamers.

How would you compare this to Isle of Cats?
@BeforeYouPlay4 жыл бұрын
Great question! Even with its advanced variant I think Cosmic Colonies is lighter than Isle of Cats. They feel pretty different while playing but there are just less variables to consider when playing this one. It's pretty much managing your resources and your orbiting cards that you are concerned about in Cosmic Colonies, and of course, there is no drafting like in Isle of Cats. Scoring is also more pleasant in Cosmic Colonies lol. Just depends on which mechanics are more enjoyable for you.

@@BeforeYouPlay Very interesting. During this time I'm not looking to burn my brain too much so this might be up my alley as something I could play with my kids. Thanks!

Is this basically "Isle of Cats! In Space!" 🤪

LOL. It has that tile-laying aspect for sure! The card movement is quite different though.
