another great vid, thank you, my plans for next year, no repotting needed, everything done this spring, no wiring needed, all my trees are wire free at the moment. One year of pure growth is my plan, lots of feed, sacrifice branches, just a full year of getting all my trees as strong as i can get them. There are times you just need to sit back and let your trees do what they want to do, just enjoy the growth.

Like that project. I started a kind of Cosmic birch myself. Fascinated by that twisted style. Thanks for sharing. Cheers 🙋♀️ Martina

A really usefull experiment with Larches Jelle , I think we all have a tree or two that we get a little fedup with, then usually something happens that tweeks our interest in them,so glad we didn't give up on it.I have a few Larches I will have a experiment with them when its time. Thanks Jelle.

I startet two Ficus microc. in this style this year after I read the books of Laurent. It has some aspects of freeing the mind and letting all the traditions and styles go to create something unusual and freaky and some fascinating. Looking forward how they will develope. Thanks for sharing, Jelle. Larch seems to be quite suitable for that style. I´m inspired now.. Greetings from Berlin, Markus

Thx! I never got one of his books so it is all by interpretation!

My pledges are to reduce the size of my collection (although the word "collection" makes the tree sound more developed than they are) and to only collect more if the tree REALLY inspires me. No more discount trees needing to be saved - only healthy and inspiring trees. I only have 210 pots (with MANY pots having multiple young trees in them) and finding the space for them this winter was very difficult. I also want to get more into conifers as I always struggle with them despite everyone saying they are easy.

oh .. you have it bad! Good luck reducing ..

That's a lot fun. Crazy fun which is good for the soul ;) I remember seeing a few of his trees at The Trophy this year. Not my cup of tea when they add soldier figures and stuff like that, I just like the twisty trees.

When I first started bonsai on my own, EVERY single one of my trees turned into a "Cosmic Octopus". It actually took a lot of effort and research to figure out how to do other styles.

I think everybody has a personal style that they automatically revert to if they do not actively try for something slecific!

Too much fun! This style reminds me of the natural cork screw hazel and willow trees I see in the parks - I've wondered how difficult it would be to replicate this growth type in a bonsai setting. How much time did it take you to wire up the larch? I'm quite eager to see what happens next year!
@GrowingBonsaiАй бұрын
I find cork screw hasel etc. to be too much "of their own mind" for bonsai. I prefer to have a little more influence. The wiring just takes 10 minutes or so on a small larch

Why are you planning on cutting back on youtube videos next year?
@GrowingBonsaiАй бұрын
Creating a video takes typically 5-15 hours. And I have been consistently been bringing out 2 videos per week.. I have 300 trees that need work. A garden. A job. I am giving a bunch of courses. And my wife likes to spend time together. At some point time is just done.
