P-Funk opens the show with what at first appears to be a sloppy version of "Cosmic Slop." Garry Shider's mic is barely audible, the Capitol Centre was having electrical problems, and Michael Hampton's solo on the backside of the song was cut short because one of his tubes died. But when things are down is when P-Funk is seemingly at its best, with Garry coming through with a rare and impressive improvised solo (filling in for Michael) that turns what could have been a bad start into a great and unique version of "Cosmic Slop."

60's and 70's that's how it was for just about most concerts with every band. A top notch road crew was a must have. Usually though after the fans waited the great bands would kick it up a notch and you got to hear and see something special That's just how it was back then.

Nevermind the problems. The Pfunk crowd that was there didn't care. George exited the Mothership buck naked. Remember that .....

I was at this and had it recorded, who knows what happened to the tape, but I used to love hearing Gary come in with something different and Skeet went into the thumping near the middle of the second solo and then Mike and Gary makem sing. I always thought the end was sloppy but bearable. Now I can listen again. Thanks to who ever is putting these up.

I love hearing Gary Shider play. Pity he couldn't have a solo like that on a studio track once in a while.

Yes. The original solo on the album was soul powered, white brother Ron Bykowski. He used two Marshall amps facing each other for feedback. You know who said that? Gary Shider !

Saw P-Funk twice in Los Angeles during this period and was one of the very few whites in the audience. Brothers kept asking "Are you sure you're at the right concert? You really here to see Bootsy and P-Funk???'" Damn straight bro! They don't make 'em like this anymore.

Michael played the opening solo then the equipment malfunctioned and Garry Shider had to play the ending solo by himself. At that time, Michael and Garry traded off in the closing solo and then played together to end the song.

Although distorted, this is great performance from Bennie Worrell and Gary Shider with his on the spot solo bring it all together for Clinton to come out with his Super-Fly Feathered costume. There will never be another....Parliament/Funkadelic! Cosmic Slop has always had a better sound performed live than the studio cutt.

Posses me off that after a thousand performances of this great song they still never learned to turn up Gary's mic!!!! This song definitely belonged on the P-Funk Live album back in the 70s. I know it was pretty much a Parliament/Casablanca release but if they put "Undisco Kid" on it, they could have put "Slop" on it.

@chiknfulio No kidding? Wow....that is crazy. I feel like they made the track lengths short (for the most part) on the Funkadelic albums after "Maggot" and before "One Nation" probly just so they could fit all the tunes on... The fade-outs always came too quickly for me but I love em anyway.

lol....You're right. What I was thinking about was an old vhs I have of the Oakland Lef of the Earth Tour & recorded on the LP. It was the same show and songs with Slop being the opening jam & Children Of Production next, then Standin On The Verge. They did a few Funkadelic jams but only Undisco Kidd, & I THINK Get Off Yo Ass made it onto the album. Don't know why though.

This is a great fuckin song but, the BEST version of this song that I EVER heard is by The D.C. funk group BLACK HEAT!!!! I don't know how true this is but, I was told that a guy named KING RAYMOND GREEN sang all the lead and background vocals on that song and did a rap, as a slap at George Clinton for stealing a song from him. Check out that version, because I think that version knocks George out the box!!!!

Eddie was not part of the pfunk earth tour nor the Mothership Connection tour. He made a couple of appearances during "78/79" but he wasn't in the official lineup. The lead guitar duty was handled by Michael Hampton. Later around late 78 and early 79 he added other musicians as part of the act i.e Blackbird, Lige Curry, and a host of others because many of them were musicians from his spin off acts. George had a entourage of musicians in his stable by that time.

In 1969-72, FUNKADELICS were a. pure R&R band and were one of the originators of funk, as it took Funk a minute to catch on with the main stream; artists like Sly Stone and Rufus Featuring Chaka Khan had a few chart hits in 1974, then Funk became more mainstream but the Funkadelics stayed Funk and by Funkadelics being true to it's metal the mantra fell to them and George Clinton was able to ride the wave.
