The only person I think it works with is Rey. Even then, it's colours in his ring gear and his mask is altered. Still Rey's mask though. It doesn't lose what makes it Rey.

I'm a big anime, comic, and video game fan who attends conventions and even I think it's too dorky. It makes an inherently silly business look even sillier.

As someone in their early 20s: it's cringey when you're 30 plus and cosplaying or posting dance/dress up tik toks

As someone in their mid-30s, it is cringey when you're 30 plus and still dressing like cartoon and video game characters from the 80s and 90s. But we now live in a world where you are "young" until you're like 36 which to some people means its ok to extend your teen years another decade or so.

More people play the computer games than watch movies referencing it is a better way to go viral and promote themselves to a younger audience
@WRESTLINGSOUP201010 ай бұрын
Thank you. It was a legitimate question. I honestly wonder though if that’s enough to make a person sit down and watch an hour long Japanese wrestling match with no background knowledge or care for the product.

John Cena and zelina vega even have character models for the mortal combat game it might just be start of a working relationship between wb discovery and WWE that's slipped under the radar

I LOVE video games but seeing people running out there cosplaying gives me extreme levels of doosh chills. It can be done well for sure but, my mind always goes to Adam Cole going out in full Master Chief armor and he’s stated his wrestling personality is Handsome Jack from borderlands (which I don’t see at all) really is too much for me. It’s definitely embarrassing when you’re trying to get someone into wrestling and they watch a ppv with you and that’s what you see. To be fair I’d never show someone AEW to get them into wrestling, just trying to make a point.

well i know some older guys like rey and his phantom and wolverine outfits do it every once in awhile but most wrestlers now are in their 20s and early 30s and sometimes they wear something they like and do it at the important shows

Maybe its different in Japan, but personally I am done with seeing people in their 30s constantly referencing 80s and 90s kids shows and video games. I see it all over KZbin I find it cringey when I'm out. Around 2010 I thought it was cool that Cody Rhodes simply had the Triforce from Zelda on his boots and it was a nice little reference that you either noticed or didn't notice, but now you have guys that are just going to straight up dress up as Link in a big green costume and a fake sword and go "SEE THIS THING YOU LIKE? I LIKE IT TOO! SO LIKE ME!"

Cosplaying is also a common thing in today's modern horror scene as many people attend horror conventions dressed as their favorite horror character,as do many modern horror filmmakers as it all makes the horror entertainment industry look very silly and unconvincing(as do 4/5 of the childish modern horror journalists,film critices,magazine/website editors,and modern fans that act as though they're forever in both 5th. grade and 7th. grade.).

The fact the Ubisoft flew this man out😂😂😂😂I love assassin creed and the outfit was cool for a convention but for wrestling no and assassin creed isn’t even big over there😂😂😂😂😂

It's nothing different than in the 80s when all the wreatlers wore blue-collar outfits to the ring.
@albertperez328610 ай бұрын
That's different when you compare these kids do the cosplay to when Triple H does it. Triple H would do it here and there for wrestlemania, its not his gimmick it was just part of his entrance to make it look different because it's freaking Wrestlemania. That would be like the only time I'd consider doing that.

I think they do it to show part of their personality. The problem is they all like the same boring niche stuff. Just like their wrestling personas there's nothing original about it.

Triple H used that sledgehammer before the Thor movies. I disagree that all promotions are cos play and the wrestling that you watched were real or had more verisimilitude. WWE even today takes their characters seriously, for the most part. To me your arguments are cynical and reductionist and rests too much on nostalgia when you prop up the older stuff that you enjoy. Be wary of nostalgia it has a way of telescoping the good bits while ignoring the bad.

When Sasha Banks did it, she knew she was basically marketing her body. She's smart enough to the business (surely) to know this was going to be the result of going into the Rumble as Sailor Moon or whoever. Johnny Gargano was booked as NXT's superhero. He dressed as all sorts of Marvel heroes. It made a lot of sense because he was the only one to do it (other than halloween havoc, where multiple take on those outfits in the spirit of that event only). If everyone was dressing as a marvel guy, it wouldn't get JG over at all. He wouldn't have been seen as the hero of the brand. If the right person does the right cosplay at the right time, it goes viral and it's a win-win. If everyone does it, they all just look as strange and unrelatable as each other. I think AEW has a lot to do with it, Kenny specifically. It worked for him, but everyone wants to be him and he wants everyone to be like him in one way or another
