I did my flight training 2023-2024 at a Class D airport (semi-busy most days I flew), $175/hr wet + $80/hr for the instructor and came up to just under $15k for plane rental/instructor/DPE fee/ground training w/ 49 hrs before the checkride. Add in the headset/plotter/sectionals/etc. it's probably closer to $17k. I was thinking of doing my instrument right after but I don't think I can afford 50 more flight hours at the moment, lol Pretty sweet to get yours for that low.

49 hours is pretty low. I’m currently working on my instrument. You only need 15 hours with an instructor. The other 35 you can find plenty of people that would split time/cost (or part of the cost) with you. There is a Facebook group composed of 22k members of people looking to build time.

@@christopherkraemer8560I had thought of cost splitting but you raise a good point with looking for groups online. I'm also thinking of going the mil route and getting the government to pay for the rest of my flight training 😅 Wish you the best on your flying journey!

Hey,what flight school you went to? Because the numbers you’re saying and right now what they’re charging is completely different so I was just curious and I’m in my search for cheaper school in Minnesota. I live in Bloomington. Your help will be much appreciated. Thank you.

Not a chance! The first school i went to was 190/hr (hobbs wet) on a 161 + 60/hr for the instructor billed to include 30 mins of ground training. 1.1 hrs cost me $275 which included a 10% veteran discount. Now add in everything else, just shy of $20k. I'm applying to a flight club now and I'm still looking 90/hr wet, plus 50 for the instructor, plus 90/month for the club and 1400 to join. Good for you doing it cheap but that's by far not the norm.

Small rural airports are where cheaper options are. Also, a Cessna 150 is a lot cheaper to fly than 4 seaters. Take time to look for deals and you’ll find them.
