Hi guys, Food vlogs are my favorite right next to travel vlogs, and as vacationers, we don't worry too much about prices. However, since all things are relative, I can relate to the native Filipinos and the expats concerned about making their peso stretch further and where prices for certain products can be a deciding factor. I plan on doing more food vlogs; now that I’m back eating pretty much all the food that I used to eat. I get a lot of food questions from the U.S. whether we are seeing high inflation in the Philippines and whether food prices are going up. I’m not really seeing it here in our province of Aklan. We are able to maintain our monthly budget and still go out at least once a week. It helps that I am Filipino; able to eat like the locals here. Take care our friends. Love you both.

Hi Ginno... thanks for a great coverage on food and prices. Ginno correct me if I'm wrong but what i noticed is local people eat only one type to bean, and that is mungo. I havent seen locals eating chick peas, kidney beans, black beans, lima beans and all the vairety of pulses. Beans and pulses are really cheap and extremely healthy.

You're welcome my brother. Chick peas is called garbanzos here; added to several Filipinos dishes like Giniling, Guisado, and Nilaga (soup dish). There are also Filipino dishes that use kidney beans; just depends on the area you live in the Philippines. Filipino dishes are different; depending on the area. Just like Filipino dialects; food is different from area to area. Lima beans also used in Filipino dishes.

Thank you my friend. The locals in Aklan have cows; but in small numbers. Usually, a farmer will have a couple of cows and several goats. Not like cattle raising in Texas. I've never seen cattle here in mass numbers. That's why beef is expensive here; at least twice the price of pork or chicken. Take care and God bless.

$16.98 a pound for ribeyes here in North Carolina so I'd say you definitely get a better price there for $9.83 for 2.2 pounds. And my price is at the local Sams Club. Crazy that their's that big of a difference in prices. Thank you for your videos and great information.

Keep in mind that the ribeye steaks made in the Philippines are probably 3 notches below choice level. There's no marbling whatsoever and it tastes like chuck steak. You get what pay for. You're better off buying New Zealand or Australian made beef as it's much better quality and tastes delicious.

When we retire in Philippines soon or sooner, I can surely spend less and still be able to maintain my healthy lifestyle. You're right, kangkong, talbos ng kamote, saluyot, okra, ampalaya etc.. are so cheap (or free).

If you eat the Filipino vegetables; your food budget will definitely be lower than if you don't. I think many people miss out on good, healthy vegetables by ignoring the vegetables that Filipinos eat. But, I understand because some Filipino dishes can be intimidating to eat for a foreigner.

Come prepared. Buy property. Have an income. Costs are irrelevant. It's cheaper here than in HK/UK/US. Food here is cheaper than where we came from, at least one fifth of the costs we used to pay. As for power outages - one in 5 years, and that was during a typhoon.

I gave up eating steak when I moved here in 2011. I just knew they were expensive and less quality beef here. The last time I ate steak was in 2016; my friend from Hawaii treated me to a steak dinner in Boracay.😁 Dazel has never had steak; it’s foreign to her to eat just a big slab of beef with blood still in it. 😁 I’ve been able to make my own salad; using cucumbers, tomatoes, red onions, add avocado or green mango, add garbanzo beans sometimes. Lettuce if it’s available. Use vinaigrette.

We don't put our fruits in the fridge; unless we wanted to chill it like watermelon. We have screens on all our windows; really helps in keeping the bugs away. We don't have an ant problem in our house. I think because I cemented our yard; I don't have grass or dirt in our property. 😃

@@tilapiadave3234 It just depends on the vegetable. Vegetables that Filipinos don't commonly eat will cost you more here. But, vegetables that Filipinos eat will cost less. Carrot is not common on Filipino dishes; I seldom use it when cooking Filipino food. Because one vegetable is cheaper in your area; doesn't mean that all vegetables in the Philippines cost more. There will always be vegetables and fruits that will be more expensive here because it is not common here and have to be imported from another country.

I have a friend that moved to Thailand after checking out the Philippines. You get better housing in Thailand and Vietnam for the price you pay. In my opinion the advantage of going to the Philippines instead of the two countries is English is widely spoken.
