I have lived in the Gallatin Valley for 45 years and I am putting my house up for sale. Not to make the big bucks, but to get the heck out of here. Bozeman and the surrounding area WAS really a great place to live but in recent years with developers gobbling up every square foot of land they can get to build their over priced homes and with the roads over crowded with rude people, it is time to get out of here and move to another part of the state that resembles Montana. I hate to leave, but this is not the place I used to live. Inflation is eating up what few dollars I have to spare. My son and his wife were both born and raised here in the valley and despite him making a way above salary for any part of the country, they are moving out of here as they can't afford it here and hate what has happened to Bozeman. Wanna buy a house???

You can promote Bozeman as much as you like, but you don't give enough warning on how expensive it is to live here. I see many posts on Facebook from people moving here. So many are expecting to find housing for under $1,000 a month or less. We live just out of Gallatin Gateway and are looking to sell out home that we have been in for 43 years as taking care of a 2 acre yard and maintaining a home is getting harder as we get older. We will have to move out of the area because we can't afford the housing costs here. It's a real shame, but the Gallatin Valley hardly resembles what Montana really is.

Thanks Chet if you watch all my videos this point is in there. I recently made a video called Bozeman Update that really highlights how expensive the housing is and how expensive it is going to be. I will make another video that really lays it out clearer because I agree with you the housing and rents here are extremely high! However all that being said if you can afford it then it's worth living here as the activities, lifestyle and people are worth the money so you get what you pay for. There are several areas outside town that I also help people find housing (Whitehall, Three Forks, Butte, Helena, Belgrade, etc.) that are much more affordable then you can just drive a little to get to Bozeman and Big Sky. I appreciate the comments and thanks for watching!

I am a newly single mother of a very young toddler, from the Philadelphia suburbs and have lived here almost all my life (I lived in Tennessee for 5 years also). I’ve traveled all over the world, and have been to pretty much every state- but the first time I came to Montana in 2014, that was it, I loved it! I’m in my early 30s, college grad, managed to save some money, and decided a year ago I was going to finally do what I’ve always wanted to- take a month, drive across the country, and move to Montana. I settled on Bozeman, Four Four Corners for obvious reasons (schools, views, outdoors, development, etc.)... that is until I REALLY started digging in, going on Indeed and Monster looking at jobs, and of course looking at real estate; and there it stopped lol. I live in an extremely sought after area in Montgomery County, PA and when I started on Zillow it was like I was looking at MY neighborhood, the only difference was everything is new construction and the views are way way more beautiful. When I decided to leave the East coast and move out west, I didn’t want to drive 3/4 of the way across the country to be right back where I started! Even after finding this channel I was still “iffy”; but after reading both of your comments it really made me realize this area of Montana is just not realistic.

As far as I can tell, these guys are pretty solid with their information. I grew up here (I'm 30) and there have been a TON of changes since the 90s. I've watched a few if their vids and yeah, they're promoting the area and are going to give you all the high points... but they definitely are realistic as far as pricing and some of the difficulties. I will say that I have yet to see any wages mentioned in detail and that's probably because they're so varied. If you're looking to move here and get a retail/food industry/service job, expect to have a tight budget. Yes, businesses are booming and the tech industry is thriving, but "regular jobs" do not match the cost of living. These guys bring up some great hacks -- they're not telling you how to live but they're telling you how you CAN make it work. Anyways... I could go on but this is a youtube post ;) Trust the information you're hearing from these two, but make sure you've looked at whether your wages will support the lifestyle you're hoping for. 👍

Love Bozeman but unfortunately the pay is nowhere near the cost of housing

Exactly why I left. Makes me sad. Wife used to nanny for all the rich, non-outdoorsy idiots that are driving up the cost of living.

I was considering moving there because the cost of living in SLC, Utah has gone crazy along with the congestion. Sounds like the housing boom has hammered your area too. Average home price $700k?!?

You got it. People who were born and raised in the valley can't afford to live here. My son and his wife are looking to leave and we will also be looking to other parts of the state.

What about high-speed internet outside of Bozeman (Southwest edge of the Bridger mountains)?

To much preaching. I don’t want you to tell me what you think I should be eating. Or that I shouldn’t be buying products from some multinational corporation.

All these guys want to to is sell hopmes to people moving into the area from out of state which is exactly what is causing the crazy home prices.
