You’re back! Very good video. I lived in Mexico (Mazatlan and Lake Chapala) for over 20 years and moved back to Calgary five years ago, after being remarried. My wife is a lifelong Calgarian but, after snowbirding every year (with the exception of the COVID peak) I’ve converted her and we’ll be moving full time to Mazatlan (with the exception of some escapes back to Canada during the hot summers). Calgary has a homeless problem as well. Rents and housing prices aren’t as outrageous as they are in Vancouver but they’re much higher than most Canadians can afford. And the health care system is a mess. My wife has had surgery in Mexico (hernia), had COVID and other issues and she was amazed with how good and accessible the health care there is. Yes, some groceries are about the same prices, but prices for fresh fruits, vegetables and seafood are far lower than anywhere in Canada. And the weather for most of the year, of course, is far better. The lady who said drugs are available in Mexico is right but that applies mostly to marijuana. As we know, marijuana is legal in Canada. And governments there will NEVER hand out free drugs to addicts. Overall I’d say, after over 20 years in Mexico and over 50 in Canada (Alberta, B.C. and Ontario) there’s no contest. Mexico wins by a long shot.

Well “horrid” is a strong word. But it certainly has many problems. Health care “system” doesn’t work, out of control immigration, crazy housing and other costs. Mexico ain’t paradise, but it beats all of that.

I live in Southern Mexico, near a few beaches. I pay approx. $1,500 Canadian dollars per month to live here. That includes the following... - Renting a small but clean apartment in a good neighbourhood that is a short walk to shopping and a large beach. My apartment has a loft and a large patio and a swimming pool. - Mexican IMSS health insurance. - Electricity - Water - Cell phone service - Internet - All expenses associated with owning and operating a motor scooter (my transportation) - Groceries - Restaurant visits - Moderate alcohol consumption. I LOVE MY LIFE!!!

Sad to see how is getting worst and worst….as a reminder I was also a Vancouverite for many years but during mid-Plandemic I decided to move back to Mexico City and couldn’t be happier with my decision.

I agree, the drug addiction and homelessness has gotten worse. But, you are walking in Whalley off 135A Street. It has been the worst street in the lower mainland for over 40 years. Around the BC Lions training facility, it has actually improved in the last 10 years. We live in Vancouver, and we have homes in Mexico City and PV, and they suffer from homelessness and poverty there as well. It's a global problem. If you are in the nicer areas closer to hotels, beaches, and tourist spots you will be experiencing the best and safest examples. When I walk at night in PV or CDMX I get offered drugs. Sad but we are living with it everywhere. We love Mexico, but it isn't perfect.

I agree. I live on Vancouver Island and in the city of Nanaimo - it is brutal for homeless and addiction, etc. So time for me to leave. Vancouver is way worse. No support. So sad. Just out of hand. I have travelled a lot as a single blonde woman and always felt pretty safe. People worry about other countries....Most it is worse in US and Canada.

Plus bus fares r WAYYYYY cheaper in Mexico vs Canada. Buses also run more often in Mexico u don’t have to wait so long as in Canada. I also feel safer in PV than in the big city I live in. More crime here and laws r so lax towards criminals. They seem more intent on protecting the bad guys than they do their victims. Everything u said is verifiable. I love PV it is awesome there. Would move there if hubby would.

Great video. Same over here in Playa del Carmen. I maintain a home on the Toronto waterfront and spend the summer there but I tell my freinds it is like doing "hard time" in Canada. Canada has just gone downhill so fast and it is so much better living in Mexico for all the reasons you describe. In addition the people in Mexico are so happy and freindly compared to Toronto where everyone seems to be hostile and angry all the time as they rush around so they can work, work and work so that they can pay, pay and pay. I hope my home country can get out of this slide into desperation but have little confidence it will. Hora de decir adios Canada. Regresso en Playa Del Carmen para invierno😁

Agree with most of what has been shared with respect to Vancouver. We have awesome medical providers but they're strapped! In terms of high rentals, I hope Canadian snowbirds are not doing to the local people what non-residents are doing to the local people of Vancouver which is out pricing the market. Canadians need to be aware of how they're impacting local people when they decide to take up residence.

Hello Larissa, I been living in Mexico for many years and agree with you on many things, when I moved to Riviera Maya it was about 65% cheaper to live then Calgary AB Canada, after visiting last summer I found how expansive, unsafe, rude Canada has become. With that said I have watched my Mexican life changing as well, with increase of people moving here driving up prices😳 there are fewer things unlike before making Mexico not as affordable, still cheaper, safer, friendlier then Canada in some cases. 🥰🇲🇽💪🏼

Hi Larissa. I’m in Vancouver right now too. I have a one bed one bath 450 sf apartment close to Commercial Drive. I am moving to Puerto Vallarta in October and already have secured a 2 bed 2 bath 1100 sf condo (250 sf of it is a wrap around balcony) pool and gym included and is only a 20-25 min walk to the malecon for approx the same price as my place in Vancouver. In other words WAY MORE bang for my buck.

Cost of living doesn't start until about 13 minutes in. Everything before that doesn't have anything to do with the cost of living. You're stating prices in USD in this video but the title is comparing Mexico to Canada so how is that helpful? I do think that $1100 USD rent is high.

The homeless are only part of the problem. The East Indian gangs are a huge problem. Then the Indo population is taking over the lower mainland and changing the landscape with total disregard to Canadian culture. I feel safer at my home in Nuevo than I do in Surrey. You pretty much nailed it. My wife and I left Vancouver for retirement in a nice city in the Philippines in October 2022 and just 3 months ago decided to take a 6 month visit back in Canada. We have been staying in Surrey, but often visiting Vancouver because my wife's son lives there. Personally 6 months back in Canada is way too much because after the first couple of months I'm longing for our condo back in the Philippines. Homelessness and drug addiction in the Philippines is nothing compared to here, and the health care available is cheap (and in our city anyhow, very good) and almost immediate. It's gone right down the toilet here in Canada.
