Imagine if the queen told everyone instead of billions spent on my funeral give it to the poorest in Britain. What a legacy that would have been.

Assuming the funeral costs £500m which is an arbitrary figure but one which I think is an over-estimate. If she gave everyone in the country some money instead that is about £7 each. Not exactly going to change much.

THOSE BILLIONS would NEVER have shown up. The ROYALS bring in BILLIONS ever year. Their cost to taxpayers is insignificant. DID YOU KNOW THE ROYALS ARE SUPPORTED BY THEM GETTING ABOUT 15% OF THE REVENUE OF ROYAL PROPERTIES OPEN FOR TOURS? *Why don't they get 100% of the revenue for properties THEY OWN?* That NOT PAYING INHERITANCE TAX was paid for up front? If King Charles died tomorrow and King William died next year if they had to pay inheritance taxes on the dead Queen and 2 Kings do you want CHINESE or RUSSIANS buying Buckingham Palace and the Royal Jewels? *OWNING PROPERTY you can't SELL isn't much use except for HOLDING HISTORIC property and items for HISTORY and the people.* EVERY HOTEL and restaurant for hundreds of miles were BOOKED with tourists with deep pockets wanting to see the funeral and show their love for the Queen. It is like IDIOTS who say stop an Olympics that was going to cost a billion and spend the money on the poor. *There never was a billion to give away.* The city was BORROWING based on TV revenue and those coming were bringing that money. For the initial INVESTMENT the city ended up with world class sporting arenas, facilities and the HOUSING for the athletes is made into subsidized housing. Hotels and businesses MAKE A FORTUNE and paid taxes as well as employees. By canceling the Olympics THEY GOT NOTHING. Don't worry LIBERAL ACTIVISTS feel good for stopping something they disagree with. Always looking for IMAGINARY MONEY rather than reach into your own pockets or stop bringing in immigrants driving down wages and driving up housing prices. How many council houses ARE SOLD so they can never be rented again? IDIOTS. HOW MUCH OF THE COSTS IN THE UK ARE CAUSED BY THE IMAGINARY FIGHT AGAINST GLOBAL WARMING? Are those in Europe FEELING WARM YET? Burning coal would keep costs LOWER. Can't fight CONSENSUS that isn't even part of the SCIENTIFIC METHOD.

Having to pawn a family heirloom is sad, but I hardly think pawnbrokers should be considered in the same league as ‘payday loan’ establishments. Their interest rates are so outrageous I have a hard time believing they are legal. And their repayment terms are structured to practically guarantee that anyone taking out a single loan with them will almost certainly stay indebted to them.

Apple’s UK retail arm paid less than £800,000 tax last year after payouts made to employees via a stock option scheme reduced its tax bill, according to a report in The Times. The tech firm’s UK retail division Apple Retail UK reported pre-tax profits of £38.2 million on sales of £971.5 million in the 12-month period to 25 September 2021. This marked a 29% increase on the previous year.

I see complaints about Truss capping energy bills at 2500 pounds a year. If I did the math correctly, that's the equivalent of $252 per month. I have paid far more than that for the last 20 years, and that is at keeping the heat in winter down in the low 60s. Or is it $252 EXTRA a month on top of what was already being paid? I can see how for poor people, that's a lot of extra to pull out of thin air. But for the middle class and above, isn't that just not eating out in restaurants and cooking at home instead?

It's sad to have to pawn your engagement ring - one wonders, isn't there other jewelry that could have gone first. But she's very brave and practical, realizing that it's up to her to see the family through. When I took extended maternity leave 10 yrs ago with my twins, a large portion of the time was unpaid leave and I sold all my old gold jewelry to cover the mortgage payments. To a jeweler though, not a paw broker. I kind of wish I hadn't sold it so I'd have it to sell now, but it served it's purpose and it was worth untold millions to have all that time with my babies. But that was my choice, it wasn't forced on me by circumstances. I chose to take all that extra time off from work.

Mate, the people that use less energy are subsidising the energy wasters already. It's the daily charge, they keep increasing it, while the distribution, maintenance and staff wages haven't increased. Only production and prices in the international market. That would be a £/kwh increase only. Current price caps (it's increasing at 1/10) Imagine person A uses 1kwh daily. Imagine person B uses 5kwh daily. Imagine person C uses 20kwh daily. 1kwh=30p Daily charge=50p (or around £15 per month, it used to be around £7.50, before this last increase) Monthly: A: £9+£15=£24 £24/30kwh=80p/kwh B: £45+£15=£60 £60/150kwh=40p/kwh C: £180+£15=£195 £195/600kwh=32.5p/kwh Instead of promoting rationing when there's an energy crisis, they're subsidising those that use more energy. Further more, if C would pay what B pays in the end per kwh, that's 600kwh x 40p = £240, not £195. Barely no one mentions this, they just freaking mention what an average family (just wtf is that?) pays yearly. It might be worthy to calculate prices with the old £0.27 daily cap. You might say the daily charge is a pittance anyway, but this raises undue billions to these companies, and people that might struggle can't save that much money by using less energy because of it. And it's the principle, just why are they raising the daily charge? It's a hidden undue tax. Why not use that excess to pay the energy of poor people, instead of giving it to investors? They're burdening the common people, not giving back to those in need, and act all charitable when they do decide to help, it wasn't their money to begin with.

This presupposes bad "habits" and "efforts" are the cause of poverty. Have you thought about running for prime minister?

It’s a bit misleading what’s said so that should of been corrected before they carried on. It’s not the royal families money it’s government money that they get. Look at Prime Minister spending stupid amounts of our money redecorating instead of using there own. Paying for there travel and food allowance day kn day out when majority are millionaires. That’s day in day out for years. This is a funeral which is a bit different. People shouldn’t be fighting the monarchy they should be fighting the Prime Minister is all those people that have put down people on benefits and tried to shame them and voted for leaders that effectively want to eradicate the benefit system now that more will actually need it to top up their own money soon they won’t have that opportunity

How is talking about people starving more important than some old lady's death? She's been queen for 70 years and has been amazing at it for the U.K., I don't deny that, but there are more serious things at hand than some fancy funeral and (upcoming) coronation ceremony, this cost of living crisis will ruin us all..
