Tbh many of these things aren’t the cost of living in a camper van. Like phone and gym for example, that’s just the cost of living. Gas mot insurance laundry and waste are the actual costs of living in a camper vs a flat let’s say. Really enjoyed the video though 👍🏻

You can’t withdraw a pension, when you live in a Motorhome due to having no fixed abode. Living in a van renders you legally homeless. Buy land, and park a static home on it. The rule is if it has wheels, you don’t need any kind of permissions. £11,000 per acre. It would be awful living in the countryside, in your caravan, motorhome parked on your own land wouldn’t it? All you see on KZbin is folk moving around like Gypos. It’s strange, and not normal.

Thank you so much for making this video! I spend £700 a month on my rent and my car payments alone. Not including food and the rest. So I’ve been considering buying a motorhome instead, once my car contract runs out later this year. You’re so normal? You’ve really inspired me that this is totally doable. I just love the idea of the freedom to drive off in your home whenever you want to. I was getting fed up of seeing totally unrelateable “van life” videos. Mostly in the states where it’s sunny 24/7 and they all spend all day in the sun instead of having a telly hahah

It would cost that to rent a house each month (rent depending on location and size if property) and you would have house associated bills on top and still have to food shop, pay for fuel, tax, service, etc etc so it is definitely cheaper to live the urban van life 🤪. Thanks for sharing the costs 👍🏻
@LPCLASSICAL2 жыл бұрын
I pay £500 a month for a 1 bed flat in Scotland - inc bills. Most campervanners probably do not park up on the street as they want to enjoy sitting outside on a nice day having breakfast with their fold up table and site facilities toilets showers etc. He is also not seeing the countryside when he wakes up but just urban dwellings. So you need to add £500 a month in site fees to his figure to make it relevant to those who stay on sites - making it as expensive as keeping a house. He still spends a lot frankly even with no site fees - I spend less than he does as I do not waste money on gym clubs amazon prime etc and I have a phone contract at £20 a month that gives me unlimited data.

Saving for your emergency lump is best done in a credit union in my opinion. Especially for newbies As you can borrow up to six times your savings in a real emergency if you do not have enough in your emergency fund. With really low interest offset by your interest on your savings which also you still add to whilst repaing the loan. Also the savings are locked in as security till the loan is repaid.

I was long considering moterhome or boat due to the rising living expenses in a house, in the end I chose the boat as the cheapest and the scenery and peace on the waterways is immense. I just brought my 1st, works out to £800 a year to be on the river +20 a month for diesel, food all depends on you and safety check is every four years. I'd reccomend to anyone boating life or motor home, get yourselfs a cheaper life, it's there for the taking! Edit: if your constantly on the move travelling then it will be alot less than £800 as I included permanent mooring cost there. Youd just be paying river license for your boat to be on the waterways, that costs me £20 a month.
@rockinginafreeworld32562 жыл бұрын
It’s a lot more than a motorhome . Anything with boat in it is expensive. You cannot get mooring cheap now. Also boat needs blacking and taking out of water. Repairs are often . Service the engine and breakdown service , the list goes on. BOAT .. BREAK OUT ANOTHER THOUSAND.

Hi, just thought i`d ask when you set off around Europe how will go on about the 90 day`s rule that is set in the EU countries!!.
@OzzyM19982 жыл бұрын
@@popachen1 Hey, I'm actually Irish so luckily I don't need to worry about that! From what I've seen I don't think they are super strict on the 90 day rule? Otherwise I'd imagine you would just have to fly home or out of EU to combat it. Not sure what the rules are for a vehicle thought

good luck, at least you will be used to drastic downsizing when you go back to living in a property and realise you can no longer afford to buy what you had as you get older and realise it impractical after a "certain" age.

Great video, a useful update on the one you did a while ago. Keep it up, your vids are really informative and down to earth as opposed to many that evangelise the experience rather than lay open the nitty gritty (if you know what I mean). Can't wait for the next one. 🙂

Another interesting video. As you are a KZbinr and using the ad free service, can I ask how do the KZbinrs get paid if we don’t watch the videos, does it have a financial impact on the channels you watch? Thanks for sharing your experience.
@Mevi2 жыл бұрын
A cut of the KZbin Premium fee goes to the creators whose videos are watched. Creators get paid both ways.
@Nettietwixt2 жыл бұрын
Pretty sure they get paid an amount per minute of video you watch if you have a membership. I heard a KZbinr explain it recently. I can't remember how much it was per minute but they still get paid.

Look up average rv insurance. They're usually cheaper than regular cars. They're not on the road as much, but are liable to be broken into if not in a garage.

@@NotAllWhoWanderAreLost.. that's a good idea. If you do 50% on site you can enjoy some beautiful countryside and keep the cost down. I had a caravan so couldn't have done urban. I stayed on some spectacular sites though - stunning valley scenes when you step out in the morning etc.

Interesting video. My husband and I have been living full time in our motorhome for the past 2 years and are absolutely loving it! Our comparative cost is around and about the same as yours, except for insurance. How do you manage to keep your insurance so low being a full timer?? Since we went full time (and declared it as such to our insurance company) our cost went up from about £300-odd per year to £1450 a year! And there aren't many insurance companies offering full time insurance either, so shopping around is almost impossible! Please tell us which insurance company you use so we can look into switching. Loving your videos, btw. Kins regards Monica May

... unless of course you're a vlogger announcing to all the world that you're a full-timer! Insurance is just about the only thing in UK that requires a home address; for most this will be family or friends although this can carry its own problems if you're carrying debts.
@Mevi2 жыл бұрын
@@psling7714 Baliffs are soulless assholes. They have no issue banging on a c/o address. CAB can help somewhat with that. DWP will pursue your estate or family in the event of your death if you are repaying benefit debt. In my years as a family support worker, I have researched debts and blacklists although I'm no expert. It's actually a commonly held myth that a whole address and it's occupants can be blacklisted by one resident having debts. This came from CAB - there is no such blacklist! I was totally surprised and believed this for years. If I think about it, how do rich people go bankrupt and instantly reboot their business under their wife's name without consequence? Depending on which credit check agency a debtor uses, you can be either squeaky clean or that late CC payment a few years back will kick your ass.

Surprised you can park urban so easily. New here and considering getting into van life. Ideally I’d like to stealth camp and convert out a sprinter, but was concerned as to how discreet and stealthy I could be - don’t want to be constantly kicked out of car parks/suburb streets etc. Now you’re doing it in an evidently clear motor home, maybe it’s easier than I first thought lol

Unfortunately people don't realize that RVs and caravans are a depreciating asset. They also need maintenance to keep them viable. Which means you take your whole home to a garage to service and fix. They don't last forever. They are too cramped for most people to enjoy - even the massive ones. I think people like the romanticism of living in a camper, the reality is it is not for most people. While I understand the UK is far too expensive for housing and wages are far too low, living in an RV is a BIG life decision and should not be taken lightly.
