One more thing foreigners should be aware of before moving to Turkey is the language barrier. Not many people can speak or even understand english and it would be very beneficial to learn a bit of turkish before moving to Turkey 🇹🇷.

Yes, I was shocked that even in a touristic sea resort place like Side almost nobody could speak English !!! Even in Hotels ! Just a bit of German... which I don't speak. In 2022 I expected Turkey to be at least as advanced as Thailand... NOPE at all !

@@didierdenice7456 Well, knowing English doesn't mean one is advanced. I've been to Thailand twice and lived in Turkey for few years and I found Turkey to be more advanced in many areas.

@@didierdenice7456 No offense, but when Turkish or other language speaking people come to visit your country they don't expect you to speak their language, or they aren't disappointed when you don't speak their language either!

I moved from the USA at 79 to Queretaro, Mexico on 11-2-2021, due to the deadly crimes and the expensive rents, utilities, food etc. I am on a pension, so I could not afford to stay n the USA, where I was born and raised. My pension goes farther here in Mexico. The city is safe, clean and beautiful.

You are right Mam. For the past several years, my friends and colleagues had been encouraging me to visit Turkey not only because it is a beautiful country but also the food and shopping are very cheap. Finally, I visited Turkey in November 2022 and found the prices of food and shopping were not as cheap as claimed to be. Perhaps it was then but not anymore. Nonetheless, I truly enjoyed the country, touristic places replete with deep history, the interiors, magnificent infrastructure, etc. Foodwise, it was bland as I am used to spicy food. Nevertheless, I stuck to Turkish food and avoided western fastfood outlets. I wouldn't mind going there again.

Preparation is very important when moving to a different country to live. What I did was buy new property many years ago in Turkiye Rent them out, buy another recently as a family home. Spending less in Canada, saving more earnings, built a house in my home country, earning and save in Canada for another two years then move and be all set. Paying no rent, and finally be free of this western b.s.

Great information. Here’s what I would add or summarize for food needs. Buy your daily basic groceries from BIM/A101/ŞOK. Twice a month Migros/ carrfour for better selection of cheeses/international foods/ wines etc. When possible open produce market especially in warmer months for better quality vegetables and fruits that you may not find in supermarkets. And finally, Never buy your meats from supermarket. Always better quality at butcher shops as they trim extra fat and skin and slice as needed.

@BeryIstanbulTips
@BeryIstanbulTips 2 жыл бұрын
Is very easy finding flats allowing cats since mostly everybody has cats here 😂 The price for the check ups will depend a lot of the area you live and the vet, the more expensive the area is, the more you’ll pay for a check up. In our case, now we are paying about 550-600 TL for our cat’s check up (vaccine, parasite, etc). Also cat’s food has been getting more and more expensive every time, now we are paying for a 10KG bag or Purina Pro Plan almost 800 TL, Royal Canin is almost 1,000 TL, last year for the same we were paying 350-400 TL.

As a Citizen of Istanbul. I would recommend only the districs that she suggested. Not just beceause of the transportation. Actually, there is public transportation is almost anywhere in Istanbul. And still there is 4-5 metro lines are in progress. Bus lines in everwhere. So I don't agree with that part. I'm talking about social-economical levels of the districs. For example, there is Esenyurt district. Almost become an Arabic district. All the low level refrugees from Syria went to there. Even half of the signs turned into arabic. And you would most likely get robbed or stabbed in a year maximum.(not joking, everyday it's on the news, people get stabbed, killed, shops getting robbed. But for example the Kadiköy, is one of the safest, highly educated, cultered, rich districts in the city. You can't probably even find a district like this in europe easily. There are bicycle roads, roller skaters, high tech scooters or stuff like that. Lots of billard, bowling, tennis, basketball, ice skating, cinemas, well known brands for shopping etc places. But ofc it's more expensive than other districts. A 3+1 around 90m2 furnished rent flat in a central position in Kadiköy 750$. And you can live medicore with another 750$. With just 1500$ you can live in a very highly educated, high class district for your whole life. If you would like a better, bigger home, there is no end ofc. You can find a flat for 1500$, or even if you'd prefer to see the sea from your big living room on your flat, than prices go up to 3000$ for rent in Kadıköy. If you're planning to spend your time in luxurious restorants, cafes, bars everyday, than you would need 3000$ more ofc. But in total with 1500$ you can have a life and oppurtunities that you can't have in most of the europe or usa. If you have money, you can even hire a good personel translator for 500$ per month. Like an asistant.
@Spiderhip
@Spiderhip 2 жыл бұрын
By the way I can help you, if you have any questions. Cuz choosing a city is easy. Choosing a district is the hard part. For example in the future I'm planning to move to Antalya. Even as a Turkish citizen I didn't know where to live in Antalya. I had been there for holidays a lot of time but being in there and living in there are totally different things. So I searched more and learnt that there is only Fener district in Antalya which is comparable to Kadiköy. So I put my target to there.

Hello! I really like your video. Thank you very much I would like my daughter to go to a medical university in Turkey. Could you expand on how expensive that would be? There’s Hacettepe Uni in Ankara and the tuition numbers are very confusing online.

Thank you for taking time for us and give an informed and very valuable advice. I have question ; my husband and I have 5 dogs, old and gentle and well educated. I^ve heard that the People of Turkey are extremely kind to dogs, but I've also heard that the governmnent has recently set up a very agressive "no dogs" and stray dog killing policy. Please, could you tell me more about the situation for dogs in Turkey and Istanbul ? Thank you very very much ! Anushka

That policy as far as I know and according to what was shown on TV news, people owning a dog of certain races (pitbulls, etc) need to be registered to keep control of them in case of any accident. This is because some dogs without a leash attacked some people in the street. Unfortunately thanks to irresponsible and stu** people walking their pets without a leash others are paying for that specially stray doggies :( As long as your beautiful doggies aren’t pit-bull or any similar race, you won’t have to register them or anything but to be more sure, once you arrive here, you can ask any vet near your place, there they’ll be able to help you and update you with the necessary procedures. 🙏

@@BeryIstanbulTips Thank you very much for your kind answer. I do agree with you, stray dogs, these "innocents of the innocents" shouldn't have to pay for the stupidity of some irresponsible humans. My dogs are all rescued from Romania streets and deadly dog pound and they are lovely guys... I just fear to bring them in a place where people or authorities are not kind to them. Thank you very much again and take good care .

Thank you for your wonderful video. Very informative and realistic. I was thinking visiting Turkey to get some dental work. I live in the US and am torn to move between Malaysia and Brazil. Seeing your video you added one country dilemma to my bucket list. I heard that Turkey was cheap but the cost of living you mentioned is unbelievable barato. Gracias usted.
