The price for the Bosphorus tour to Anadolu Kavağı in August has doubled to 240 liras. However, a questionable special feature has come up with: foreigners pay 480 lira, even if they live in Istanbul like me and have a valid residence permit. I find this discriminatory and since then only use the normal ship connection with transfer in Sariyer, especially because I can then use the Istanbul-Card.

Was in Istanbul last week for a few days. I think it was quite expensive for things like attractions, beers and cocktails, raki... Food was a little more cheaper for the quality, some more expensive than others but tasty. Baran Et Mangal was fantastic and very cheap for what we had. I had a clean shave and ear flaming that was 300 Lira which I thoght was cheap. A great city but with the inflation of the currency it feels like a lot of prices have gone up with it and I feel bad for the locals. As an example I think Lisbon and Bilbao was cheaper than Istanbul and with cheaper attractions Also a tip, if you think Galata Tower is too expensive, there's a cafe near it with a roof terrace that gives very similar views for a fraction of the cost. It's usually quiet and you can buy a coffee or tea at the top for very similar views. It's called Galata Konak Cafe & Restaurant

They know exactly what people are visiting Istanbul for, so I am not surprised having to pay for it. However compared to other cities, the prices of sights in Istanbul are totally out of the way. A day in Euro disney is cheaper. I personally believe they would make more money if they made it a bit cheaper. These prices will only lead to people making choices and not visiting certain spots, moving around to other parts of the city where it is more affordable and spending less in overall. Thanks for giving us the insight.

Unfortunately the prices have gone up 5 folds since the past 2 years and with an inflation of 65%, the tourists are not saved from the price hikes. We have travelled to Turkey at least 7 times in the past 5 years since we live in Europe and we can already see a very big difference in the cost of everything. Some restaurants have "European prices" but the country is still amazing and people are very friendly, so I rather spend my money here than to stay on an island somewhere else. The cost of tourism has grown so much that Turkey is on par with London, Paris and New York. Turkish government is killing the tourism industry. Imagine a family of 3 people paying 3x$285 to see the attractions only. Adding hotel, transport, food and Airplane tickets you need to apply for a big loan from the bank to come to Turkey. There are many places in Europe that are cheaper to visit.

I'm a foreigner living in Turkey for more than a year a half at this point. The economic struggle of this country has only gone up 10 fold and will continue to get worse. Prices of everything increase every week. For those coming to Turkey to visit, I strongly urge you to always ask about prices before you buy anything, as many times they won't bother having them written. Restaurants especially in/near touristic areas can absolutely price gouge you and in some cases add a "10% foreigner's tax" on your food bill. Look at menus with prices written. If it's not easy for tourists anymore, imagine how hard it has been on the locals.

Not much difference when you have to buy the Istanbulkart plus many might want to take this option especially when having heavy luggage or even kids with them. Havabus: 121 TL but it only goes to Taksim Square. I'd like to know more about the cost of a glass of wine or beer, cay or a meal at lokantasi please. The entrance fees to those major tourist attractions can be more easily checked but everyday essentials such as eating out etc would be more useful. Thanks.

Longer story short: it’s all relative. If you can afford to visit Türkiye you can afford whatever the cost. No different than any other tourist attraction in the world. Paris, London, Venice, whatever. I will say this video talks only of Istanbul’s higher costs. But just visit the areas where the locals go and anywhere else besides Istanbul, you will find it far far less expensive. Visiting Istanbul is like visiting Jerusalem, Athens, and Rome. The historical significance is unmatched. Go big or stay home.

Are these prices reflected all over Turkey, such as in the other popular tourist cities, or just in Istanbul?
@Z4r4kiKenpachi7 ай бұрын
All over tourist cities.But Istanbul on another level.House prices are the major reason behind these things.Cost of houses went x4 compared to 2021.Everything followed it.For example i was earning 700 euro in 2019 now i work for more than 2000 euro.But i feel poor.Purchasing power went down.

Prices are crazy high for attraction... In most countries i visited, cultural places aren't that expensive. Depending where we are, food is also crazy expensive. I'm arrived today and i asked the price for a steak + fries, which would cost max 20€ in France and the guy tood me 1300 lyras... LOL. I think these restaurants were just scammy for tourists but here (and anywhere in the world in fact) when I don't see the price, i'm cautious because they can scam you (and of course you can find in Istanbul good local food at decent price). And Taxi seems big scammers from what I read a lot online, fortunately the other means of transport are great even if metro "doors" could've been more luggage friendly

Some people are damn rude here. Very hard to communicate. In and around touristy area they speak nice.. Some people are patient some gets agitated if you ask them twice. Transportation is very good food no doubt osum. Overall It's a mixed feelings when warmth and hospitality of people here.

Take pictures of the signs outside the restaurants where they post the prices of food plates. When you get the bill, compare to the prices on the picture. They’ll still try to screw you but at least you’ll be able to have a bargaining tool!

Do you recommend the museum pass for Istanbul? At 2500 TL it seems like a good deal to access 10 museums?
@BeryIstanbulTips9 ай бұрын
Muzekart is not valid in all museums. It is only valid at Galata Tower (600 TL), Topkapı Palace (1500 TL), Maiden's Tower (550 TL), and a few other museums that are not frequently visited by tourists. Does not make a lot difference. You can see the museums here: muze.gov.tr/urun-detay?CatalogNo=WEB-MSP01-05-008

Sorry to say that, but I think Turkey is shooting itself in the foot with these fees. Especially, since the country relies so much on tourism.
@istanbulportrait7 ай бұрын
In fact, it is not so dependent on tourism anymore. Azerbaijan and Iraq became the only countries selling their gas and oil to Europe. In addition, it generates high amounts of income from high-tech defense industry and civilian industry products. Türkiye doesn't care much about tourism anymore, it's a mentality that those who can afford it should come.

these days, you must pay alot! everything for foreigners have tripled, entrance ticket for example for the underground water reservoir is 30$ and children above 6 years old pays the same price as adult, that is pretty absurd for a 15 minutes sightseeing place
