It's pleasing to see a video about living in the Philippines posted by a Filipino couple. Please forgive me if I sound harsh - I really don't intend to - but my wife, who is a Filipino, and I worked our butts off overseas, away from our families for many years so we could live comfortable lives when we stopped working. We now live in the Philippines, having retired early, and own a number of properties from which we receive income, and have substantial savings. We don't need to budget. Having said that, we are not extravagant and probably spend about USD2000 per month, which includes schooling for the kids, day-to-day expenses and generally enjoying our lives. We live in Rizal, BTW.
@dazeltv13512 жыл бұрын
You don’t sound harsh; we understand the sacrifices many Filipinos do working overseas in able to provide for their families. We have friends that currently work overseas and support their families in the Philippines. I served in the military for 20 years and also had to sacrifice a lot in order to have a comfortable life now. We budget because we live on a fixed income; my pension from the military. We also travel for one month out of the year; so we save for our yearly trip. We are currently on our 1 month trip of Luzon; next year we plan on visiting Negros Island in Visayas.

@@dazeltv1351 Travel is the one thing we have missed during lock-down. I am widely travelled and since my wife and I got together we have been all around SE Asia and to Europe. She's caught the travel bug. When restrictions are fully lifted we intend taking an extended trip around the Philippines. As yet she has only visited Leyte and Biliran, and that was during mega- typhoon Yolanda! My brother-in-law has volunteered to drive not, I expect through any desire to travel, but to have some respite from his all-female - four daughters - family, some beer and some male company.

@@JamesBondEsq. You seem to be confusing fair comment and honesty with egotism. My comment was supportive, non-critical and genuine. Your response appears to stem from jealousy and the simple desire to undermine others. I feel you somehow misunderstand the concepts of snobbery and arrogance. Being honest is not snobbery, nor is it indicative of arrogance. I was simply responding to a video. You, however, seem to use it as a means of expressing your own moral superiority and, sadly, failing to do so. However, continue with your unsolicited and unwarranted trolling. The pandemic lessened our activities with our friends and family the past 2 years; very strict on gatherings the past 2 years in the Philippines. We did have a weekly cornhole (American game similar to throwing horseshoes) tournament with our expat friends we attended for a couple of months last year when we were allowed to play. The place where we played had food that you can order and pay; so players paid for their own food. My wife and I would always bring snacks from home. Since we are allowed now; we plan on hanging out with our college friends and our family at the beach more. Our province of Aklan is mostly coastline; we have so many beaches. We don’t have a separate budget for hanging out with friends and family because it’s always bring your own dish (potluck style) when we hangout on the beach. So easy in our province to stop at the wet market or roadside stall and get fresh seafood (really cheap) and grill it on the beach or river. We will do a video on that when we get back to our province. Most activities we do for entertainment doesn’t cost much money; so we don’t have a separate budget for entertainment. My wife and I like hiking, running, biking, swimming, and paddle boarding for entertainment. We also don’t have a movie theater in our province; so we just watch Netflix.

What would it cost to live in Boracay island 🏝
@dazeltv1351 Жыл бұрын
Just depends on how much you want to spend a month on rent. A one-bedroom apartment starts around $300 a month and up to $600 a month. Cost of living on everything at least 30% more. A good monthly budget would be around $1,200.

How is the Internet where you live?
@dazeltv13512 жыл бұрын
Slow like most of the provinces in the Philippines; but we get by. Able to upload our videos and watch Netflix. You get better internet in the cities; but usually cost you more. We pay 1,250 pesos ($25) a month for our internet service.

That is amazing. $700 = 1/2 my apartment rent alone in Okinawa (with the military.) Rent in Stuart, Florida was $2,500/month for a 2 bedroom 2 bathroom apartment (800 sq. Ft.) I know where I can retire to….

With more new hospitals being built; the Philippines is becoming a more attractive place to retire. In our area (Kalibo, Aklan); there is an 8-story medical center currently in construction (scheduled to open in 2023). It will be a fully-accredited U.S. standard hospital. I expect it to be added to the Tricare list of hospitals in the Philippines.

@@dazeltv1351 That’s great to know. I’m a professor here teaching the military and I’m retiring in 2-3 years. I’m going to Cebu in Dec. to have a yacht built, but I want to see other parts and maybe retire over there. At those prices, I can have my yacht to sail and a house or condo as a land base. Thanks for sharing! Maybe see you on a visit to your province. I prefer rural to cities (grew up in NY.)

@@rabukan5842 Let us know if you ever make it to Aklan province; we would be happy to show you around our area. I grew up in the city too (Manila and Los Angeles); I prefer the province now. Plenty of boats are parked along the coastline of Aklan; fishing is a big industry here. I’ve also seen some very nice yachts from other countries in Boracay Island, Aklan.

@@dazeltv1351 I will do that for sure. Definitely sounds like a good place to sail into and maybe spend some time. I'll be doing some sailing with the builder out of Cebu, so maybe we can sail up that way for a day or two. It will be nice to meet up, see your area, family, and home. Looks like you've really found something great that you wouldn't get in the US, especially LA/NY - no stress.

@@rabukan5842 Yes, after living in Aklan province for 11 years now, I have found home. We have traveled in other provinces/islands in the Philippines; Aklan province remains our favorite.

maybe the wife should start earning her keep and start learning how to cook for the family, it will save a lot of money and will also make the husband proud of her instead of just like having a trophy for a wife...

Dazel earns online and helps her family with the money she makes. She also does all the editing of our videos; were we hope we can earn someday. We live a simple life in the province and are able to save money. There isn’t a day that Dazel makes me proud of her. She is the first in her entire family that graduated college.
