My boyfriend and I are planning on renovating my parents garage and converting it into a studio apartment for us because the cost of living is insane, plus my dad always wanted me to keep the house once him and my mom pass away, and this video is super helpful. That sounds awesome! Glad I could help. Try not to spend too much money on it if the house is going to stay in your parents name because you don’t want to be left with regrets afterwards if you put a lot of money into it and don’t own the house right now.

@@ZacharyBuhler 100% this is under the pretense that I’ll be taking over the house eventually and then I would probably turn it into an air b&b or a guest home. It’s just so expensive buying a home now and as my parents get older I’d want to stay close enough to help as much as possible

If you ever have to paint again, check into using a paint sprayer for most of it. The only thing you have to use a brush for is cutting in. The sprayers nowadays are really easy to use. You did a great job on your build. -Susan

Couldn’t agree more! In the 3 years since I’ve installed it I’ve already spent $1500 on repairs. So if I had just gotten the top of the line system and paid someone to do it in the beginning it would have been the same price without all the headache.

I’m Looking into this for the future to rent out our home but also turn the garage into a studio and rent that out as well. Being from California is a little concerning with renters going through with their payments

Yeah, right now I’m renting out my basement apartment and then I have my parents living in the studio apartment. It’s great house hacking and has really put us ahead financially over the last 5 years 😁

Definitely worth it, it’s probably worth double that in the house price increase alone. Not to mention rental income I can get from it now. Utah is a very expensive real estate market.
