Another way to save on costs is to buy some materials for the refurb at auctions. Some very high quality items (taps etc.) can be bought for a fraction of their full price.

Great idea. Eddisons offer such opportuntuies in their auction. I know of a friend who buys materials in Eastern Europe and gets them delivered into the UK!

Great question Jane. A recommendation is best. You could also use websites such as MyBuilder. It is somewhat like eBay where you can read their feedback.
