Should we worry about mosquitoes there?

I can only speak from my personal experience and the time of year I last visited (October), but mosquitoes tend to be seasonal in their nature and I did not experience any. Like most places, they do have programs in place to mitigate issues from bugs.

as soon as you get in the mess that is the tourist trap there, turn to the left as soon as possible and find the Mayan Rituals. They have massage at great prices. I got 30 minutes 'back' massage for 40 dollars. Best deal you are going to find in a tourist trap. If you go inland you might find something better, but as a solo I was not going to do that. All the other crap is over priced. 8 dollars for a coconut? NOPE. any meal was at least 15 dollars. NOPE.
