I disagree. There are tons of talented actors and singers out there. What we don't have are the talented television and stage writers who can do good much less great sketches for variety and comedy shows. Just look at Saturday Night Live which has been on my whole adult life. Most of what has been on there since 1975 has been only fair at best. Yet they don't do many shows each year and they have a long list of writers with separate ones for Weekend Update. Every week you can see squandered acting talent on that show. There's dozens of excellent actors wasted on those special effects and cartoon movies too.

I think we still have plenty of acting and musical talent. What we do not have is sketch comedy and other short form writing talent. That is why Carol Burnett had last snd one of the best vatiety shows and why every Saturday Night Live from the first episode to today is (outside beginning and News) mostly one dud after another. SNL's history is one of failures with a few scattered gems and some OKs for nearly 50 years. I am so ready for a miraculous return of good sketch writing. 3/20/24
