I was in the studio when she sang this song....I was a page at NBC....I still remember walking into the studio and see her behind the drumset. Even in 2024, Karen Carpenter may be the best voice I've ever heard.

The Carpenters are legends indeed. So much talent in just two people. It's remarkable and we'll probably never see that kind of thing again in our lifetime. But Andy Williams was no slouch. That man could belt out a tune as well as any diva on earth. Truly spectacular. I miss those days so very much.

Andy Williams, Karen, and Richard Carpenter together were pitch perfect. Variety shows in this era must have had an exhaustive amount of preparation for each show. An amazing era in television that featured amazing talent and live audiences.

an angel's voice. certainly the most enchanting female voice among all singers to this day. Best vibrato for sure. Watch how much fun she has - doing what she likes, mostly playing the drums and singing, always smiling, amazing. On the other hand, the most striking male voice is Freddy Mercury.

Imagine being a 21 year old talented singer/drummer being asked to be on the great Andy Williams TV show and when his show started you were only 12 years old. Karen looked sooo healthy here. The Carpenters cover of the Beatles Ticket to Ride in early 1970 only made it to #54 on the billboard Hot 100. But it got them enough deserved attention that their next single, Close to You went straight to #1 and the rest is history. Unfortunately that history tragically ended on Feb 4th, 1983. Sometimes I wonder why God allows stupid things like that to happen and lets villains', crooks, and murders live a long life, or morons run for president a 2nd time.

I like Andy Williams, and really like The Carpenters. However, the opening number seemed to be aimed at young people...and was a total miss. Sometimes when we try too hard to be current and relevant we only show that we aren't.
