To test a melon for ripeness, press your thumb into where the stem was before it was picked. The softer it is there, the riper it is. Hard ones need to sit on our counter a few days.

Just finished reading your book (kindle edition). Thoroughly enjoyed it. Can’t wait for the next installment, and also for Kait’s cookbook. We have a 40’ DP, but it’s too much work to be able to do what you are doing with the camper van, so I’m looking into a small class c on a Mercedes Chassis, like a Winnebago View/Navion 24V or a Tiffin Wayfarer 24TW. These have twin beds convertible to a king bed. I haven’t seen the Tiffin yet IRL but I’ve seen the View/Navion. We prefer Tiffin in principle because of their quality and service. One of these would allow us to move around a bit more. We probably won’t ever be without a stixnbrix homebase, but would love to be able to just go out and explore for a few months at a time.

I see that you were near the Sedona area. My daughter spend a couple weeks down there in early February. She loved it and had a great time exploring the area. She has half talked me into going with her next winter for a couple weeks. She wants to fly ... whereas I would prefer to drive the RV. We'll sort it out because at this point I'll do just about anything to get away from the winter weather for a couple weeks. Costco ... one stop shopping. Gas, propane and groceries. The only problem I have with our local one ... I go in and wind up spending WAY MORE than I had intended. Never fails ... every time!!!

We've had our 2004 Roadtrek for over a year and have yet to refill the propane tank. So it's good to know Costco has it available (at least in some areas).

Hi Joe, You kept referring to Prescott as down there. If you are in Cottonwood, then Prescott is Up. several; thousand feet. Just so you know. I lived in Sedona for 6 years.. Love your videos :) Ian

Up or down can also refer to a general northern/southern direction, like a map orientation (north up, south down), not elevation. Since Prescott is southwest of Cottonwood, then the term "down there" is common since on the map it is lower in latitude.

It's funny you're debating getting a drone, although I agree with Kait about the expense. We just bought one used from a friend (nearly new) and are currently learning how to use it. We hope it will be an asset to our vlogs. I always find good deals at Costco/Sams/BJs warehouse places - especially for gas and those items I know my family will eat on a regular basis.

Well, that's an advantage of RV life that never occurred to me! Get your shopping, take the cart out and JUST STORE IT IN YOUR HOME! We buy, pack it in bags, pack it in the boot, unload it, lug it upstairs to our flat, unpack it all, put it away, try and remember to take the bags back to the car....

A Mavic Pro is the perfect drone for a Class B. It's easy to fly, takes great video and photos and folds so it fits in a small space.

Just got me a dji spark, half the cost and size of the mavic. (The one in you saw at Costco). Keep in mind, drones are not allowed in national parks, $1k fine if they catch you.

Just a heads up, don’t make the same mistake that the KZbin bloggers “Less junk, more journey” did with their drone.. it took off in auto mode and was never found. It landed somewhere in thick woods after a malfunction to never be found. Place a Tile fob on your drone... these will be cheap insurance that you will find the drone when or if it ever decides to make it for the hills...

Costco is the bomb. Love shopping there. You walk in for a small item and walk out with a cart 🛒 full. I try to go on the weekends during the lunch hour and just sample everything. We love COSTCO. Thanks for your insight. BTW just finished your book. Your style allowed me to gain an appreciation for you both, your experience and a view into your personalities. Fun read. My wife, Gail and I have just ordered a 2018 Newmar Canyon Star 3911. Yes it is way BIG and will eliminate probably 50% of the grounds, but this is what we needed. Our selection process was very similar to yours, first DP, then a reality check and on to the Ford V10 MH. If you are ever in Florida we would like very much like to share a coffee and have a chat. The plan is to get our sealegs along the east coast and then head west to the NPs. Happy Trails,

Ps Prescott is awesome! Go over Copper Basin road, which takes you west of town, there’s a great overlook at the top, then the road drops down to Skull Valley. It’s a beautiful drive. We had a ranch that covered a huge part of the Copper Basin area, and there’s national forest so you can camp there too

Hi Russos. So about the drone on display at costco, the DJI Mavic Pro is a fantastic camera drone but the price is a little high. You could pay say US $499 or less for a brand new older DJI model which still has quite a good camera. A good beginners drone at this price is the DJI Phantom 3 Standard. (still a very sophisticated drone, not so portable though) I just bought one and just for the fun factor alone, it has been so worth it. I have also found it suprisingly easy to use (plenty of advice on youtube also) and am amazed at the amazing cinematic vids I am getting without trying too hard. Kait, if I had a KZbin channel I wouldnt hesitate in the purchase. With or without aerial shots, your channel is fantastic, but still hoping you might reconsider a drone?! Actually, having said all of that I was thinking of sending you a donation anyway(I`m really enjoying the channel) which I will do right now, however, should you ever decide to get that drone, then just consider my dollars a discount! Not to be pushy (wink, wink), but there are cheaper ways of getting drone footage. For instance, we caught a sale on the DJI P3 standard for $350. I still crave a Mavic Pro, but can't justify it either. We map out the Costcos for our trips so that we can plan meals a bit. You can most certainly shop Costco in an RV! We've been known to sleep with groceries until we eat our way back into more space. :) Don't know if I've ever said hello here, but my wife and I have been watching for some time. We certainly enjoy all that you share, whether or not it has an aerial view.

I do a lot of drone footage on my channel. For a small budget take a look at the DJI Spark. It will be good enough for simple footage for your channel. I mostly fly MAVIC pro and PHANTOM 4pro. Happy trails.

Whoa, safety? I truly hope you guys are ok...that’s a heck of a teaser for the next video. Be careful out there. Remember, if you’re not interested in firearms, wasp spray is a great for self defense in a confined space. It goes out to about 20’, you can squirt long bursts, it’ll incapacitate most people, and unlike pepper spray, you don’t stand as much of a risk of it blowing back into your face because it’s a stream you can aim instead of a spray.
