Thanks for this. My cord just broke as well and I bought my Costco Portofino in 2019. In the end, I decided to return it.

thank you very much. Was going to give up and put the umbrella out to the curb!

This video is very helpful. My Portofino rope broke just before July 3rd. We bought the umbrella from Costco in 2015. I managed to disassemble the crank assembly and restring a new cord, but am having a problem with the torsion spring in the clamp. From this video, it appears that the spring is installed in the clamshell before the crank shaft is installed. Do you happen to have any close details on this assembly.

Unfortunately no, this whole video was an after thought after I got it all apart. Not really a “how to” but more of “how you have to do it”. The only spring I recall was for the “trigger” to move the umbrella up and down the pole and it lays inside the clamshell. Sorry, been awhile and trying to forget the ordeal. 😊

coolaroo is similar, the cast ratchet will break on you which is where im at. I will prob just drill through the steel shaft and tie the rope to it and use something external to hold the handle to keep it "locked" in position

I found an easier way to replace cord if you pull the sliding arm down you can access the cord reel and fish out the old er string. Tie a knot of your choice to existing cord and fish threw with wire to the top end done deal. Less is more😉

Hmmm….I may not fully follow, but I could not access the reel on my model without disassembly. That was the whole problem, but believe me, I would easily accept an easier way.

This might have worked, but I think I turned my crank so many times that the rope is in the area where the crank is. Thus, I probably need to do what this video shows. UGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I removed the umbrella. I did NOT touch the handle assembly. Fished a new cord through. Pulled it through the umbrella, and then dug out the line from the hole at the assembly. The mouse had eaten the line at the very end. Reattached. Fixed. 90 minutes.

@@tonybudetti….a much better fisherman than me. I remember trying that for a long time before I gave up.

What do you do about the rivet you drilled out?
@baddad116 Жыл бұрын
I actually just pushed the remnants of the old rivets back in place. You can insert a new rivet or anything to act as a “pin” to hold it in place. You probably could use a smooth shaft carriage bolt, but keep in mind your cord might be touching it.
