Daemon's armor it's giving all that needs to be given: the perfect balance between down to earth pragmatism and regal extravangance. It's goth, it's drama, it's grounded. It's certified ASOIAF. The dragon ears are just the cherry on top.

Daemon's armor is everything I imagined it to be. Definitely the best costume from the trailer. I wish they gave him some eyebrows though

I think the one thing about the costumes is that not only does it tie into GoT, but it also ties into just how stagnat this world is. Keep in mind, we see little of the changes in technology or even culture. Well, except in Essos where we see new forms of government and more "modern" clothing mixed in. Westeros is meant to be just sort of stuck in the past due to their reliance on kings. There are even theories that the Faith of the Seven was intentionally doing this so they could remain in power. The real interesting thing will be if we see a real change in the reported Jon Snow sequel, which I theorize this show is actually meant to set up.

My only discontent is the hair. Why they’re so straight and tightly pressed? Targaryens are often described as having long silky hair with flowing curls and when they’re worn up it’s always stylish messy buns gilded in silk, lace, jewels, pearls, and not just braids.

Loved this breakdown. One of my favorite trailer shots was the short look at the knights presenting themselves to Rhaenyra; it seems they were wearing surcoats (or tabards? i'm not so good at telling the difference) w/ their coats of arms or house colors over their plate armor. That shot got me super excited to see how knights of the different houses will look in this show. The House Velaryon costumes are my favorite so far as well.

Thank you ultra, I didn't get a close enough look but I thought those were cloaks. I will have a better look when the show comes out. Thank you so much for commenting!

I'm actually very shocked that they're even allowing helmets to be worn on this show, actually. Really I think that was more of the Dan and Dave thing than anything. The whole not wearing any helmets or hats so we knew who the actual stars were when they were a bunch of extras in the scene, I always thought it was so bizarre that all these people in the North never wore hats is blistering cold as it could be especially beyond the wall..... Wall..... It just wasn't realistic to me. , As much as people were fashionable back then they were logical and practical as well. So it's nice to see armor helmets even if the shields are up and to see the Sea Snake wearing a helmet during battle

Even though when we look at a lot of (Pre)European styles during antiquity and the medieval period clothing doesn't appear to change as drastically as our more recent empire-building societies during the 15th - early 20th centuries, since HoD is pulling styles from the Italian Renaissance, English Tudor, and (I'm guessing) Reformation periods when fashion began to move beyond the space of practicality and into the realm of politics and theater, it's odd that they don't show a more clear distinction between the styles of GoT and this earlier period that took place over 100 years earlier. Even in the imperial states of Japan, India, Vietnam, Korea, and China (and the Ottomans), throughout the various dynasties and periods, you saw a gradual shift in fashion as trade routes shifted, diverse ethnic groups came to region due to immigration/colonial expansion/slave trade . . . or new powers established new look (and textile laws) to distinguish their rule. GoT always took a level of care in distinguishing looks on region and history, and I'm hoping that this prequels team took the same care to cultivate regional looks, cultural distinctions, and fashion identities 🙏🏾 Just some random thoughts from your friendly neighborhood historian (and fan of costume co.) 😘

Hi Sidney, wow, this is an amazing analysis and much more nuanced than I could ever come up with. Thank you so much!

Can Daemon slide the dragon face down over his nose/mouth. It looks like the outline of the dragon head could settle just above the eyes to offer that protection, like pulling a face mask down before a joust.
@Costume_CO2 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure, but it doesn't appear that there is a visor while Criston def wears one in the joust.

I have to agree that Corlys has just won the costume war. Do you know if the materials for armor are accurate? BEcause I hate to say this. while I find Daemon's dragon helm creative... it looks somehow 'fake'...more like a really amazing cosplay than a "functional" (though still ceremonial) piece of armor. I do love hte scaling of the brestplate though. I the closeup of Otto is that a broach, clasp, or just ornamentation? I'm curious about it. They only had ONE embroidery artist for Got?! holy hannah! That poor woman! So happy to hear she got help! I really want a better look at that black and gold gown of Rhaenyra's. I also have to say that the first outfit of hers you covered remains my least favorite. Apologies. I also really love how the shot from the praying to feast shot their dresses have clearly gotten so more ornamental/detailed. Clearly in a nobility presentation struggle at that point. I would have loved Myrish lace too! Thank you for your hard work as always!

I think that Daemons armour might have been painted so it doesn't look like steel although I'm pretty sure it's likely made of metal. This kind of fantasy armour is difficult because it can look like cosplay and not realistic. I'll have a better impression once the shoe is out. The guy behind the armour is top drawer, he did the first seasons of GOT and worked with Marvel as well.

I guess its fine, but its a little bit generic fantasy for my taste. And i dont know how to feel about the Tudors inspiration, Its to literal and marks a weird fashion past to the medieval GOT style. Maybe an early medieval/bizantine inspiration, would be more logic, i dont know. I miss so much that Michelle Clapton`s creativity, every costume was a beutiful mix of historic references and unique design.

I JUST WANTED TO SAY THAT! I like young Rhaenyra's costumes but Rhaenys' are ( in my opinion) horrendous. Alicent's are fine and so are the others. I would've loved if the Targaryens dressed in more Greek inspired dresses or the ones Daenerys wore in season 3 to 5.

I wonder when are we going to see more medieval headpieces, like those pointy "princess" heats or those that looked like hornes.
