I love your analysis of each costume. So much information can be conveyed in a series by the costumes alone. I find myself studying every costume in every movie and series I see, for the details that unlock so many secrets hidden in plain sight!

Wonderful costume design, such attention to detail. I absolutely loved her 'wedding outfit', the vest was so colorful - conveying to the viewer that she was out of mourning.

Very informative! Many viewers unconsciously depend on the costumes to help determine the nature of the characters, but don't realize the work and creative effort that goes into that aspect of production.

Inspirational as always! I'm currently recovering from burn out and been having a hard time finding my own creativity again, and to keep it "a lust" instead of "a must". Videos such a yours are a great help towards recovery, thank you!

Thank you so much Martina! I totally get that! I went through a really bad withdrawel after Game of Thrones but shows like this give me new life and make me excited again. Have you watch The Marveous Mrs. Maisel? It's really uplifting. :)

Thank you for doing these videos! I LOVE Anne's costumes, they are brilliantly done and fascinating to see on screen. I would love an excuse to wear the one at 8:32, the waistcoat is awesome. Is it corduroy? It all makes me think back to the oxford shirts and vests with blue jeans and boots, sometimes a tie of some sort, that early on became a standard look for me. And I was given a lot of crap for it, too. It's weird but I'm feeling a little sense of pride for carrying on the tradition that made Anne so "gentlemanly" and unique. Like finding an ancestor I didn't know I had and seeing how much alike we are. This show hits home in so many unexpected ways.

Hi Elizabeth! Thank you so much for sharing. I think you should be able to waer what you like if it makes you happy. It's always so surprising to me that in the 21st century, people still get their knickers in a twist (like to use costume idioms) about what others are wearing. As to that vest, I think it is a velvet or a low pile chenille perhaps with a very small dot. You could certainly use a wide wale (cord) corduroy, I think that would look spendid! Cheers, Heidi.

@@Costume_CO Knickers in a twist, lol! I love English idioms, they're so much more fun than American. Thank you for saying that. I will say, fwiw, that attitudes towards more androgynous clothing have changed substantially. You should've seen the looks I got as a kid in the late 70's wandering into the boys dept. I learned really young to ignore it (yet another moment that gutted me). But by the 90's stores like The Gap started to even cater to it. Just from a historical perspective I thought you might find that an interesting change. It's definitely still an issue, but I have seen a lot of progress on it in my lifetime. What hasn't changed is women's clothes still don't remotely fit me even if I wanted to lol. I look forward to part 3 and thanks for the info on the vest! 🎩

Thank you so much for the video! It is so funny but the coat, wests, the Gaiters and other things Anne wore do remind me so much of clothing I still wear for horseback riding. The materials have change but the silouettes are nearly identical.

When I saw her peplum military style coat, it immediately have me a pseudo renaissance era vibe. It made me think of the waistcoats men like Sir Walter Raleigh wrote in portraits, particularly with the high fringed neck collar that resembled the ruffle collar of the era and the capped shoulder sleeves (check his portraits to see what I mean). I found it apropos to compare Anne to Sir Walter since both were radical adventurers and scholars who liked to travel and flirt with danger and lonely high society ladies who feel constantly judged by those around them. Still haven't seen the 2nd half of the series so I skipped that part, but I will get back to you on that one.

WE FOREVER STAN RECENCY ERA MARRIED LESBIAN QUEENS, FOREVER I SAY!!!!!!!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣😂😂😂😂😊😊😊 I have so many thoughts about this show and its costumes, too many to state here!!!! After seeing the entire series, my favorite of Anne's costumes is her blue wedding garb. I am GAGGING over that gorgeous waistcoat and she just looked so freaking good!!!!! I also love her outrageous hats, each one more crazy than the next.
