Thanks Clare, loved this! Got such a giggle from "swapping patterns & recipes" in the nest box. I found your channel looking for help with an impacted crop, then kept watching. Every blessing!

Hi Clare. Thank you for you response to my question the other week, my question is I was given a date of 9th of July onwards my chickens would arrive is it the heat the reason I've not had them yet .I understand the welfare of the birds must come first .

Hello William, I'm not sure that I understand your question; are you ordering chickens for Cotswold Chickens? They are fully stocked right now.

Hi there, with regards to the base being concrete... I was wondering does it have to have a sub material on top? I. E hardwood chips or gravel? I was thinking of leaving it as a concrete base and having a dust bath inside in a container

Hi Jack Yes, they will need some litter to scratch about in, and to absorb their droppings. Ideally, the run would be covered with a clear waterproof cover - tarps or clear corrugated plastic. The litter could be Aubiose hemp bedding (my favourite) or hardwood chips. I would avoid bark, gravel , rubber chippings and sand though. Clare Taylor

Good. How much was the first chicken house, more or less. Can I guess at £200? How long would it last?

Hi apologies for the late reply. Which coop do you mean, the plastic one or the first wooden one after I show the card? It is probably best that you call the Cotswold Chickens yard directly so that they can check which one you need. Their number is on the bottom of the website www.cotswoldchickens.com

Hello Clare I've just had my first lot of chickens they seem very well looked after ,they were delivered a lot later than than I expected.My question is what volume of feed do I give them ,I have pellets,mixed corn ,mash , I have an escape artist amongst them allready,there wings have been clipped.It seems to me they are nervous is that natural.

Hello You don't mention their age, but I am guessing that they might be point of lay, so between 16 and 20 weeks. They will naturally be very nervous of this new situation, so you should keep the in their run for at least 2 weeks, to build up their confidence and a homing instinct. Add some Nettex Vit Boost to their water as this will help to calm their nerves. If they are point of lay, then they should be on layers rations, pellets are good. If they are younger, then they need growers feed. Use a gravity feeder and keep it topped up, running it down towards the end of the week, when you will wash it out. They will seem to eat little at this stage,but their intake will increase as they come into lay. Only feed corn very sparingly and at the end of the day as it is very fattening. I would keep their wings clipped, when they start to free range, and for the next 6 months

Hello Google Translate shows your question as: "I have a chicken with an injured leg and its toes are bent backwards and it limps when walking. I think it has a nerve injury. Please, how to treat it?" is that correct? Without seeing your chicken walking, it's impossible to tell what the problem is - it really needs a proper examination, so please take it to a poultry vet - it sounds serious. I'm sorry that I can't be any more help without seeing it for myself. www.claretaylor.com

I have 50 chicken in my garden, I leave them free ranging all day, and when the night come, they go by them self too there chicken coop, chicken coop should be only for sleaping and keeping them safe, not for lucking them all day in itttt

Why would you say plastic igloo coops are acceptable ?? Not enough room or protection. Chickens love wood and proteection from weather. They can't survive in this type of set-up.
@CotswoldChickens
@CotswoldChickens 6 жыл бұрын
They are absolutely fine Amanda, obviously, like some wooden housing, there are flimsy, inadequate ones, but the PetzPodZ and Eglus are double insulated and very good> They are also easier to take apart and clean. The type of housing that you choose is really down to personal preference.

CotswoldChickens I agree they are fine for one chicken per igloo depending on the size

Plastic means easy cleaning and no mites. The igloo is cool in summer and warm in winter. Its a great idea. You can get different sizes, Jumbo, Cube and Go.
