Please for the sake of the folks who will be living in this cottage, keep a space on either side of the sink. One side will be for clean dishes to drain and dry and the other side would be for dishes that need washing still. I know this probably is impractical but it would be very nice if there were a window above the sink, so the person who is washing up had a view to look at while working. It would also give nice cross ventilation with the front door.

Re kitchen design: why not continue the base cabinets along the internal wall all the way to the stone steps? Access would not be a problem if the step-up from the kitchen was exclusively from the adjacent step-up (as shown; in line with the front door). Thus any high cabinets could be excluded from that internal wall side, adding to the aesthetic when viewed from fireplace or the stairs.

don't you have to vent the gas cooker to the outside for carbon monoxide? I would put both the cooker and the sink on the back wall and build a small island for counter space, storage and eating space. If using a small fridge it could go under the Island.

Do you need to have access up the stairs from the kitchen as well as in the entryway? It would only be a few extra steps to get to them from the entry and you’d gain a considerable amount of cupboard/bench space for an already small kitchen area that probably doesn’t need three entries.
@carolnicholas77902 ай бұрын
Looks really good Sean - would a small high window looking up to the sky bring more light into the back of the cottage?
@jillfrancis83802 ай бұрын
I'm not sure, but I don’t think the space is big enough for a permanent island; it may be better to have the hob on the back wall (better for venting/power source) and a movable table at counter height could double up as workspace and eating area. My parents had a chopping board which sat snugly on top of the sink to increase preparation area too....just an idea.
