What I love about Æthelred the Unready is that his name wasnt given to him because he "wasnt ready", his name is actually a pun. In old English, æthelred ment "well advised" so as a joke, people started calling him Æthelred the unred, or (loosely translated) Æthelred the poorly advised. Over time, the Unred part of his name turned into Unready and the word unred became disused and obsolete. So even back in the 10th century, the people of, what is now, England loved a good pun

The last Anglo-Saxon King Harald II Godwenson, was killed at the Battle of Hastings, in October 1066. Sis this is off. Henry has been king since he was 9 months old, but he became weak-willed under the shadow of protectors, controlled by them and his wife. One of them wanted the throne and claimed to be the senior one in the line of succession, this was Richard of York, who died in the battle of Wakefield so his eldest son inherited his claim. This was Edward IV who got the throne in the battle of Towton (I think), ruled til 1470 for ~10 years, then the Lancastrian sympathizers, Margaret of Anjou, and Richard Neville, Earl of Warwick aka the Kingmaker rebelled against him and he was forced to flee, they got Henry back on the throne for roughly a year, Edward returned from exile, Henry's heir died in battle and Henry died ✨mysteriously✨ in the Tower. Edward ruled in relative peace until he whored, ate and drank himself to an early grave. His sons also disappeared ✨mysteriously✨, his brother who usurped the throne was defeated and found in a car park in 2011-12 or something. That's the glorious house of york and the last plantagenets for you.

I think historically speaking, Alfred the Great is my favorite English king. He rallied the Anglo-Saxons and pushed back the Vikings, taking back much of England in the process.
