Things I want America to know about us: 1. We do not say "eh" after EVERY sentence. 2. We do not bathe in maple syrup. (Though we would if we could.) 3. We actually DO have a military and it actually IS a decent military. 4. We like beavers for the same reason you like the declaration of independence. (Believe it or not, beavers play a BIG role in Canadian history.) 5. We think you guys are idiots.

1. One place where you got dry burgers and french fries doesn't mean all of Canada has dry food. 2. We don't eat vinegar on everything. 3. We don't say bag like beg. I've only heard someone saying beg instead of bag from my American cousins. 4. We don't say aboot unless we're around Americans. It's kind of an inside joke so sorry for giving it away fellow Canadians. 5. Sadly we don't live in igloos. 5. "Canadian bacon" is actually back bacon. It looks kind of like ham. I don't know why in America they call it Canadian bacon when in it is British. In Canada bacon is referred to as the same bacon American's refer it to and back bacon is referred to Canadian bacon. So no, it is not "our" bacon. 6. Canada was not named from picking letters out of a bag. The name originated from the word Saint-Lawrence Iroquoian word "Kanata" which means village, settlement, or land. 7. We don't all speak French. Quebecers (or Quebeckers) speak French and then some others around Canada. Sorry about all of this. I know you put a disclaimer but this is just for people who actually believe in these stereotypes. Sorry again.

Je ne parle pas francais, and while I understand their desire and right to keep their culture if I had a chance to learn a second language now, Mandarin would be my first choice. Yes we say "eh" sometimes, would you prefer "huh" or "hmmm"? Canada is a Huron-Iroquois word, it was not picked out of a bag of letters! We know what continent we live on, America, and the name of our country. But this was not as bad as I thought and it sounds like a lot of us on both sides of the border dislike the French and that's too bad because I feel they belong in my country.

I miss the commercial a few years ago showing how much salt was put in Campbells soup and how, yes, right away Canada accepted them decreasing it but, as usual, Americans would not accept it not tasting as good and wanting to gain more weight so Campbells had to put all the shit back in! I don't usually comment when it come's to comparing America to Canada so this a Canadian's take on American's--> I can name all 50 state's, their capital's and when it comes to the metric system I know how to translate it,I don't need to google it. Our school system taught us this by grade 6.I know the lyric's to your national anthem which I hear every time I watch a hockey game or any other American sports team play'n against a Canadian team.I can name your all your president's since John F Kennedy was assassinated Nov 22nd 1963.We rarely say eh or aboot,,we like bacon but who doesn't? We know much more about America then some American's do. It's about time America realizes that Canada is one of the best countries on this planet to live in,raise your kid's along with our beautiful land and river's to admire. I can write a book about the difference's of our countries but I'm not gonna waste my time educating American's when they should of already been taught all of this when they went to school.,BTW,I'm not ant-America,I just speak my mind about what I've learned from my American friends.Peace out and do some reading,it's very important to be educated nowadaze. lol

For one your talking to teenagers who are notorious for not knowing shit (expect some...but you really didn't seem to talk to any of those) and a lot of people have biases based off of stories they heard growing up and how the Media portrays Canadians. As a Canadian I can't be angry at them because they are just ignorant about their northern nieghbours. But just to let you Americans know, we really aren't any different then you. Oh and here are some facts about Canada.... 1. The name of our country came from a mistake that occurred between a Native tribe and European explorers. The Europeans asked the Native people what the name of the land was called, the Natives responded with a word that's close to how 'Canada' is spelt, but the Native thought the Europeans were asking were their village was. Canada in means 'Village'. 2. The beaver is the national symbol of Canada because of how big the fur trade was when the french and English were settling Canada, before it really became Canada. And also because the beaver was the main animal that they hunted for during the fur trade because back in England it was used to make top-hat's. 3. Lets clear up a myth. Canada isn't cold all year round. Actually were I live (born and raised) in Saskatchewan our summer are hot, the highest we got this summer was 39c (not sure what that is in F). And in the winter time coldest was -40c in February. 4. We don't all love winter weather. Actually we complain about the cold just as much as you do, we just deal with it better because most of our year consists of snow. 6 to 8 months a year of snow actually! Heavy and lots of snow... 5. Hockey, yes was invented in Canada, but its not our only national game. Lacrosse is the main one, because of England's influence in our forming as a independent country. But Football here is probably the game that has the most hype around it now-a-days. I could name more but I actually got to head off to work....so hope that cleared up some nonsense for you American! :P

Sorry Amy, the only reason Football is the big hype in Saskatchewan is it's the only proffessional team you have, and they have the same colors as a John Deere tractor. :-)
@avnas9010 жыл бұрын
Radar Plot Extractor Do you live in Saskatchewan? Because if not then you are making assumptions and that is never a good thing to do. I know many people who enjoy football, and who don't just watch Rough Rider games but other teams across Canada as well as teams from the US too. And by the way the Rough Rider colors are green and white, not green and yellow like the John Deer Trackers. And thanks for stereotyping prairie people, real mature of you....

Not really...There is no collation between the two, but one silly picture of a tractor with the Rough Rider logo on it.... That doesn't make if fact. And again I ask you are you from Saskatchewan? Because if not you wouldn't know about things like this.

@vivianthepotato88579 жыл бұрын
+Sussex Yakuza Clan No, it's not. One must keep in mind the perspective of the listener and not just say "we don't say that". In most English-speaking countries, people pronounce ow and ou diphthongs the same. However, in Scotland as well as in Canada, where it is an example of Canadian raising, they are pronounced differently. For example, when people in other countries say about, what we say is closer to a boat, but to Americans it sounds like aboot.
@wilywhiskers19409 жыл бұрын
+Vivian Potato Nah, I'm always being told by Americans that I don't sound Canadian because I say 'about' the same way they do, they have never actually heard anyone say 'aboot', just heard the stereotype. It's a misconception, and it's really annoying having someone from another country tell you how you're supposed to pronounce your words. Apart from the deep south, we sound literally the same. I can't believe you linked the Scottish accent and the Canadian accent together, they are completely different, unless you're a newfie, that accent is in a league of it's own.

+Vivian The Potato I think the more correct spelling would be "abewt" with the T not always enunciated.

no we don't put vinegar on everything, just some deep fried stuff. Contrary to popular belief, hockey isn't the national sport and some people have other things to do. Most of us have been taught a few words in french through school but that's about it.

Lol, as a Canadian I laughed so hard at this video. Here are a some of the reasons: 1 hockey is popular, but we don't all like it, 2 we almost never say eh, but it is occasionally used as a substitute for hey, 3 Where I live the temperature can go from -35 C(-31 F) in winter to 40 C (104 F) in summer, I've never met anyone who can build an igloo, 4 There are stupid people anywhere you go, and we're all ignorant about some things but on average Canadians score higher many tests than Americans, 5 We pronounce most things like Americans, the only exception I can think of is the letter z (We say ZED not ZEE) and our accent's very from region to region. The stereotypical Canadian accent is a Newfoundland accent, mine is the same as most of the people in this video. 6 Please tell me that teacher was kidding when he said we move slower because of the cold.....the idea that a man that believes that has a job as an educator is funny and SCARY!

I'm Canadian, and proud of it. 83 Also, I would like to add a few things: 1. Even in the Winters, not everywhere in Canada get heavy snowfall - or any, for that matter. It was such a fun day earlier this winter when it ACTUALLY SNOWED... for the one half-day. XP 2. We do not, in fact eat a lot of pancakes and/or maple syrup - at least not from where I'm from. Personally I prefer waffles over pancakes, and as for the maple syrup, I don't really like it. It's too sweet, and too expensive. Normal old pancake syrup is what I like. 3. Not all of us like hockey. In fact - don't kill me for this - I kind of hate it. 8/ But, then again, for me it's the same for almost any sport. (Us Band kids tend to... not prefer PE... ;3) 4. We do not all speak French. Definitely not fluently. Though I myself am in French emmersion, more than half my friends only speak English. I'd say only about 20(ish)% of Canadians fluently speak in French. 5. This will just debunk a lot of obviously untrue stereotypes, but... We're not uneducated, we have public schools, private schools, colleges and universities. Most of us (I can't speak for some people that live WAY up north) do NOT travel by dogsled - or even have I sled for that matter. I own one beloved mutt I got from the pound, and that's all I need. In A LOT of places, winter is not "year round". As in, we do not always have snow falling, or cold. Where I live, we're lucky to get ANY snow whatsoever during the winter. Usually it's just rain. 8/ Our summers, though not as hot as some places in the US, can get quite hot. I can tell you that it gets to about 30 degrees, but that'd be in celcius, so Americans probably wouldn't understand. XP Our police force are just about the same as those of the US. The "Canadian Mounties" stereotyped are quite false. I've never seen one in my entire life. 8P We do not talk in horrible accents and say "Eh?" at the end of every second sentence, as the popular stereotype says. With the exception of a few changes in pronunciation, we speak basically the same as most of you Americans do. I don't know how the rumor started that we pronounce 'about', "aboot". It make absolutely no sense at all to me, and I don't see how that even came about. (See what I did there? 8D) In my entire life, I have never seen any Beavers, Moose, or Polar Bears other than in nature documentaries. Jut because they are mostly thought of as "Canadian animals", doesn't mean we all see them. We have a PRIME MINISTER. His name is Steven Harper. Unfortunately, the only thing Americans even know about our government right now is Rob Ford, "the crack mayor". IT IS NOT LIKE THAT AT ALL. Stephen Harper was just being stupid(er... than usual.) Also, I would like to formally apologise on behalf of all of Canada for Justin Bieber. We are not all like that, and by "all", I mean I've never met anyone like him. 8/

As a Canadian, I hate vinegar. Winter, too. Yes, we have a lot of it, but exposure =/= enjoyment. Oh, and we have more than one sport. Are we really into hockey? Generally speaking, yes. But we do like other sports, too. And we invented basketball. So there. I love how the first "province" that one guy came up with was NWT. Not a province. XD I don't blame Americans for not knowing that, though, because they aren't exposed to our media the way we are to theirs. For the Americans reading this who are genuinely curious, our provinces are: British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, and Newfoundland and Labrador (commonly just called Newfoundland). Our territories are: Yukon Territory, Northwest Territories, and Nunavut. The attempt at our national anthem made me laugh. XD They knew about as much of it as I know of the American anthem, so it was totally fair. But it was still funny.
