This is the third adjustment to the seat cushion. It makes no sense that I have to do this on a couch only 6 months old. But, it's worth it because we cannot find it's equal.
Anyways here is a short video with some information about how I hacked this problem.

I replaced 2 of my zigzag springs on my 35 year old La-Z-Boy recliner and I noticed that the gauge of wire was a lot thicker, it was 9 gauge. Looks like your gauge spring is a lot thinner, like everything else they are making them cheaper and cheaper. I had to use small bolt cutters to cut my springs off.

I actually work for the company and am an operator for the place that makes the white packaging foam you used before putting in the green. We make anywhere from 1/32" thickness up to 2" thickness of planks with density of 9 lbs per square inch. Awesome seeing you use it for such a project!

I'm doing my cushion as well and I pushed the sofa turtle up so that I only need to push down the cushions to insert foam instead of pulling the springs if it was on the side. (Saw how your fingers suffered ) thanks heaps for this foam idea

That’s a lot like what I have had very good results with before I stated below: Yes and foam pieces can be free, some items are packed with upholstery like foam for shipping Fix it for absolutely free!: Fix trick for car seats: Often used car seats upholstery is still good but the supporting foam is worn down-especially the driver’s seat. Get some used carpet sheet foam(often your neighbor has some in the trash or in the trash behind a carpet store): Unbolt the seat and peel off the fabric from the seat by removing the bottom retainers (usually plastic J channels) to gain some access under the foam sear core. Add 1 or 2 sheets of foam under the foam core between the core and the seat bottom(1 sheet for the entire seat area and 1 small sheet for the butt area often is what’s needed for the drivers seat). Use mallet to reattach fabric plastic retaining edges onto seat metal frame. The seat will be amazingly plump and firm again just like new! The seat backs do not need any foam since they don’t get worn from the full body weight pushing down like the seat does. This trick SOFAS!: works great for home furniture such as sofas: for seat cushions with zippers: carefully unzip also peel off the fabric from the foam core, use a loose hack saw blade in hand and cut through from the back of foam block making it like 2 sandwich buns except stop before cutting through the front so that there is a solid foam hinge at the front. Now cut and add carpet foam sheet or two or three laid into the middle of the sandwich. While holding and compressing the sandwich foam buns back together, carefully and patiently roll fabric case back over foam and zipper shut. The effect will be Dramatic, like new! Often people think the sofa springs are sagging when aged but it’s the weak foam that takes all the direct weight and it just needs more added to bring it back to new specs!

Do yourself a favor and puts a tie wire of some sort to connect all the springs. That will massively increase the longevity and feel of them. Cant beleive they didnt do it from factory. Sign of a ridiculously cheap construction.

I am sure there is a specific tool for that. But I did watch the factory rep do the same thing on an other couch. It really works. I do NOT recommend removing the springs. You could get hurt and may never get them back on. Good input though.

Why wouldn't you use some kind of vise grip or another kind of wrench to tighten those springs rather than just stuffing them with miscellaneous foam? You would just squeeze the "U" part of the spring on the side very carefully until it's a bit tighter and then move on to the next. If your tool slips it's going to hurt, so be careful! This way you don't need someone to pry them up in order for you to force something under and you're really adjusting the springs the way they were meant to work.

Well it’s a good thought. But I am sure I’m not strong 💪 enough to bend spring steel especially while it’s under pressure. Thanks for the input.
