FYI, some Dacron fills are slick and silky feeling while others are rough and clingy. You should consider replacing fills that are not slick and silky in texture.

I just bought a sofa online and we've been frustrated by the fact that the seat back cushions have a "crunching" sound that they make. Its an 80% polyester blend. I'm assuming this Dacron is a cheap one that will not ever break down to not make that sound in the future?

Hey Mark, hoping to watch the complete video after work today and get my cushions restuffed this weekend but I have a question. When I unzipped my cushions last, I noticed that the inside paper like liner material inside was quite damaged and torn because our dog can be a bit rough. Any thoughts on what to about this? Is it something I can purchase, measure roughly, stuff, and replace?
@MarksUpholstery10 ай бұрын
It is common for these light weight tickings to tear or disintegrate. Minor damage can be patched with another fabric and a little spray glue. Major damage requires full replacement

@@MarksUpholstery Thanks, will do. My other plan had been to make my own inserts using quilting batting and double sided tape (I dont sew) since it's just to hold the stuffing, my cushions are zip-up and machine washable. But I'm going to call the store and see if they have replacements as well.

How do you fix couch cushions with marshall springs inside the foam? The springs are in good shape, albeit the cloth surrounding springs have a few tears, but not enough to worry about. Should I re-build the foam boxing or just replace the top and bottom foam with a firmer foam? I love to sit on a cushion that are built this way - it reminds me of the more comfortable furniture from "back in the day." If you have any advice, or a link, let me know.

I personally stopped making inner spring cushions years ago. I either regrown and wrap them or replace with solid foam

How about inserts with down?
@MarksUpholstery11 ай бұрын
If your tick is not rotting you can put it in a dryer or out in the sun till it fluffs up. If the down is mixed with fiber, just do the same as the video

Mine has no insert. The stuff is just sitting in the cushion and i now want to figure out an insert situation. Also it seems the filling is breaking up. Its a mess.

Fluff out what you can, then add pic fiber as needed. You don’t have to have a tick. It is just better when you do.

our back cushions have this problem. when I opened them up, I found the insert (inside bag) is not broken up into sections and instead is just one big bag.. I've tried adding additional stuffing into them over time, but that either makes the too fat (and they don't maintain their height) and/or it just compresses down over time. My guess is one the the challenges I have is the fact that the insert is not broken up into 3 or more separate pockets.. Do you agree that that this is the problem? if so, is there a way to buy or make replacement inserts? Or do you have other suggestions?
@MarksUpholstery6 ай бұрын
If you intend to use the cushions for a few more years, it may be worth having a shop make sectioned ticks.

@MarksUpholstery10 ай бұрын
Typically, all down can loose its fluff due to drawing moisture and oils. Depending on the integrity of the ticking, it can be left outside on a hot sunny day or put in a big dryer. These can allow it to regain some fluff. A lot of cushions may have down mixed with Dacron. In some cases they can be treated like Dacron, but in my shop they are typically replaced with either all down or Dacron.

its unavoidable..... dacron/kodel, polycloud/cluster fiber, and even "microdenier" siliconized hollow fiber polyester (Trillium) "skins over" polyester-on-polyester self-adhesion.... even if you fill in the gaps around these "logs" or "sausages" of densified material.... they will just skin over again with an EVEN DENSER set of baffle-shaped logs.
