Minis very rareky become redundant. Like a unit that is really good might suddenly suck but its not likely. We will probably see some rules changes and maby some mission/campaign stuff

The game already takes a long time. They dont need to increase the points (increased army size). Legion is a skirmish game in scale and it knows it. Every unit's activation takes a little bit longer than unit's in large scale battle games take. If I had to guess, they'll probably add Standard Loadouts. They really love that. Im against that idea but thats what Id guess. I'll add one more point. If the concern is that Legion and Shatterpoint arent different enough, the answer shouldnt be to change the game that came first. Any changes that take place should be in Shatterpoint. Legion already set itself up as a skirmish game and has been doing so for years. Its Shatterpoint's job to make itself unique from Legion, not the other way around.

@sirbobbya compared to other miniature games, Legion is closer to a skirmish in its scope than games like Warhammer, Age of Sigmar, Flames of War, etc. I believe this was just FFGs preferred scale. They did the same thing with X-Wing and Armada. While all of these games can scale to a larger game, they all start to feel a lot slower. At their skirmish scale, these games feel comparatively snappy to most of their larger counterparts. That's part of what makes them so good.

I like and agree with alot of your points. The only one I'm somewhat opposed with is the larger games. I even thought at one time legion had official rules for it called epic but maybe Im confusing it with xwing... Anyways I agree with your point of legion taking long enough as is, I find that whenever I increase the points of a legion game above 800 (even its not much like say 100-200 points) It drastically increases the play time. As you mentioned it has something to do with more activations being present (and larger potential for each unit to do stuff compared to say 40k), especially on the first 2 turns it takes awhile. I notice it every time and I think that's the main reason larger scale should be incorporated into some kind of alternative game mode for legion play, and it should be something that's supported + encouraged maybe with an AT--AT that can only be used in those larger point games, or unique command cards only usable in large scale battle... like a more powerful orbital bombardments, maybe a unit reinforcement card to replenish a deleted squad... possibilities are endless! Also could allow team games! But at the end of the day the pace of the game is designed for that standard 800 points, or even less I have had a lot of fun with 400pt skirmishes as well. I hate standardized loadouts, keep that shit out of legion please and thanks. Sadly I think your assessment is correct mainly because atomic mass barely does any new generic upgrade cards as is (like seriously the only ones they make nowadays are upgrades only usable by one specific unit/character) its sad but I think they just want to do standardized loadouts to avoid actual work with balancing their games, and instead neuter it. I really don't care for nor understand the appeal of shatterpoint, I agree that at this point it should really be its own thing and legion shouldn't bend to the lesser+newer game, it makes no sense... If atomic mass really wants more hero's in legion make a separate game mode for it (like what I was saying with the larger scale games above) its that simple.... and again if you want people to actually play it support the mode with product and new things exclusive to it so people have a reason to try it.

Yeah. They basically killed X-Wing overnight here in NZ. So few people play now, and since I flew tie swarms and mini swarms with aces, they basically said I can't play the way I want anymore with their new rule set with how generics are just not viable. Will still play casual 2.0 at my place with friends, but yeah, it's basically gone now.

2.0 completely killed that game for my community as well. I can still get people to play games of 1.0 every now and then in person but its become one of those tabletop games I'm lucky to play more than once a year... Compared to when I use to play in store events+tournaments every other week with like 10+ tables of xwing + armada going.

​@camwardart Tom isn't actually reffering to X-Wing 2.0. He's referring to when AMG changed the rules from 2.0 to X-Wing 2.5. 2.0 was still going strong right before Covid with the Europe Open Qualifier having 310ish people in it February of 2020. Then Covid hit. As players started returning early 2021 to in person games, AMG dropped 2.5 rules and the game was shattered.

@dblevins343 you are partially right. But I was referring to 2.0 where Xwing went from a game of "space dogfighting" to an objective based tabletop game with spaceships. In my eyes it killed what xwing was all about.

@tomd3395 2.0 doesn't have scenarios though. 2.0 was still "dog fighting" like 1.0 and was still developed by FFG at the time. The only difference was card board changed and the points went from 100pts for a list to 200pts to add granularity. 2.5 is what AMG introduced which is when scenarios were added.

I think the game could benefit from a dedicated Skirmish list like 40K does with Combat Patrol... Pre made list, skirmish sized, buy the box you want, great intro point that can be used to start your army.

Careful what you wish for. AMG may go a bit deeper into the predetermined lists than we expect. It's what they did to X-Wing by essentially only ever adding Standard Loadouts.

I think with the upcoming changes, we might see some exemplar on rebel commanders, agile on the corps, and clones getting a huge change, with many more things happening with the new update coming. It's been in discussions for awhile. Glad to know it could finally come out in July

The Asmodee store still has Legion in stock, but but X-wing and Armada are completely sold out as of today. X-wing was almost fully stocked at the Asmodee store 2 days ago. I haven't been able to find any official news on this yet.

Honestly feels like it's gotten extremely quiet with legion around my area. Reprint of new looking old stuff at this point is a slap in everyone's face who waited for actual things to be released.. ewoks, rangetroopers, there's a lot of sidefraction stuff going on right now which is poorly considering we still lack a good deal of main characters.

When AMG releases a wave of Star Wars Legion minis, to get the most of those minis I would love to see them also release a thematic side game (Imperial Assault style). It could just contain the mission narrative and map tiles, allow players to play out a miniatures potential load-outs to see what works for their play style. Mission Packs could range from Darth Vader in the corridors of the Tantive IV to Luke taking down the Dark Troopers.

I reckon they have a very good idea about how many boxes of things they are selling. Here in the UK, stocks are here but there are not super high amounts (so far as I can tell), I think they are really careful about how much they produce

A 2nd Edition would also be a great way to introduce faction identity, like Will was talking about. I'd be down for a rules shakeup, as long as they mostly make sense. Raising the points cap, and rebalancing the points cost would be a great way to increase the scale of the game, if they're going to go that route. Both probably won't be needed. It just depends on what they're going for.

Be careful what you wish for. The X-Wing community said the same thing before 2.5 dropped. I do believe AMG has a better understanding of Legion than they did X-Wing, but they still have their preferences that I don't think most Legion players would agree with. If I had to guess, they'd prefer a points system more in line with what they do in MCP and now X-Wing 2.5. Set loadout points with a lot less room for customization. If they did a 2nd edition (or 1.5) I wouldn't be surprised if they started releasing Standard Loadouts either.

I brought an Empire bundle a few May 4th's ago which included a core set which has sat unpainted/built ever since it arrived. I really hope for a more simpler way of playing much like GW with their latest editions for 40k and AoS. I'd love to see a point increase and an ability to take more units make it feel like a proper Table Top War Game. I might finally finish building and painting everything I have including the Hoth battleforces and loads of extra Empire and Rebel units.

As i spread my time between a number of different table top games, i get a bit rusty on the keywords and find i spend a lot of time flicking through the rules to find out what each one does. Thats one thing they got right with MCP and Shatterpoint - having all your info on the character cards so its all right in front of you.

The ghost crew it's nothing so hard to do. They can copy-paste the legendary-formation concept from war of the ring. Maybe we need an update on vehicles, specially the movement. The notched are fine, but they are a bit tricky to use it...

Looking forward to seeing what the game makers are thinking. I like simplicity of the game and the game's time footprint. I hope they protect those elements of the game. That said, I’m always interested in new styles of games to play with same minis. Legion is probably due for an adjustments based on what’s been learned through years of game play. Adjustment sounds better than a shakeup. The game isn't broken and shouldn't be treated as though it is.

They could keep the points the same. What could occur is that as it is mandatory to have 3 core troopers is just make the base units for the initial 3, free. You'd still pay for upgrades, but the initial 3 would be free.

Side note, I’m seeing 18 comments not counting replies, yet it’s reflecting “5” prior to going there. I know you’ve been interested in what we see on our side before. My gaming group is still playing skirmish. Faster paced games and being able to get in two quicker games instead of one or just getting a game in on a busy week instead of none. I could see my group being one of the people you addressed as far as leaving the game due to one of the possibilities of size increases. There are a lot of good/fun games out there currently. This is Star Wars but we have fun playing Legion as we have been and just like when X Wing started power creep and pay to play, it’s too easy to just play a version of the game you enjoy and just ignore the new stuff. Referencing Legion specifically, I’m always holding my breath for a scale AT-AT to run scenario games with for beer and pretzel nights. Great review/recap of the interview. It definitely worked to hold me over until I have time to watch the full thing.

Prob too crazy an idea but I think it would be interesting to have to compile an army of say 1000 points but there is a battle deck option for 600 800 or 1000 points before the game commences and go from there. Could be a lot more dynamic and make for interesting 1000 pts armies

I play Bolt Action! as well, and I think if you increase the points you will need to increase the table size. I think that would be a good thing though. I would love to see AT-ATs and Gunships make it to the table…that would be awesome!

I believe that, in Bolt Action, units appear on the table only on the turn they actually enter the game. That would speed up Legion play, by cutting back on the deployment phase.

I perdected that a points increase would be coming when they added ventress and asoka since both of them synergies with other expensive character ie dooku and Sabine it hard to make a list with both characters with just 800 points so i do predict a points increase to 1000

I have not jumped in yet, so a 2nd edition would be a good time for me to do so. I have heard a game takes a long time, so perhaps a 2nd edition could take some steps to streamline some elements a little to make games faster, particularly if they do intend to increase the points at which games are played.

I think a unit points change or army points change could be good. A new addition with a ton of changes might not be something I'd look forward to. But there are small changes I think that could be made to make the game more fun in casual and competitive settings.

If they want to make games larger, one of the best ways they could encourage it would be to make a game mode called armored assault, you can only take tanks and maybe light vehicles like speeders and walkers, because heavys tend to be a few hundred points kitted out this gamemode would naturally fit in with higher points, briding the gap between grand armies and the normal army size, so people dont say, if i want to get a grand army sized army i can spend twice what i already have, instead they'll say, well if i want to play armor assault i just need to buy one more tank to get me to a decent level, and oh hey, now my total army point is pretty close to grand army, so maybe illegal take a step towards that

If you want to push Legion more towards larger scale battles I think you also need to increase the table size. As it is, I feel like it's a little cramped for 800 point battles.

i do 3200 point games on a 6ft by 4 ft table and honestly it doesn't feel cramped if you do your terrain right.

I will say, the size shouldn't be a big issue. Compared to games that are much larger, Legion has a ton of space for movement.

I must admit, if AMG move to new editions every couple of years like GW, I'd absolutely stop playing the game. The idea of re-learning rules every two years doesn't appeal and is exactly why I moved from Warhammer to Legion in the first place.

I could see an increase to 1000 points with a 4-5 core requirement. I also like the GW model (did I really just say that?) of new editions to keep the game fresh. I love Legion and is the first tabletop game that I’m actively working on collecting the entire product line with all armies possible.

OHHHHHH!!!!!! Had another idea and didn’t want to double post. On Iden you can choose to run her as an Operative instead of commander. You can run an Imp Officer/Rebel Officer/Clone Commander/etc. as a unit upgrade or as a Commander itself. What if they introduce a way to do that with Sabine, to use your example. Can run her Operative card, or can run her in Ghost Squad as a slightly lesser version, but in the squad itself. Would open the door to go the opposite way as well. Echo running a battle force of Arc Troopers. Fives as well. Rebels getting some named unit upgrades or run them as commanders/operatives. You got my gears turning on some fun ideas.

I doubt they will increase the points for a standard game but I could see them mess around with numbers of units you can take. But no one is taking six of any one corps unit except maybe b1s, don’t think increasing the limit would change that

I have no problem with a 2nd edition. I would have a problem if AMG followed the GW pattern of a new edition every 3 years. Sure, you don't HAVE to buy new minis (unless the rules make them useless or illegal), but you STILL have to buy new rules, army books/codices,and all the many "campaign bppks" that hide even more rules inside. That'd be the death knell for Legion.

Legion doesn't need to have bigger armies. It takes long enough to play as it is. What I would like to see is a set of shatterpoint like missions for Legion. Legion lacks objectives like MCP and shatterpoint.

Does adding a 1600 point ruleset mean you HAVE to get rid of the 800 point ruleset? Why not have different options for multiple army sizes, say 400 point skirmish for a quick game, 800 point battle for the standard game, and 1600 point grand army for an epic game?

I found that playing Blitz drastically changes the game and makes you reevaluate every unit. Full 800 points on a 3x3 is an amazing change that really speeds up the game play.

I would like to see a change to list building where you get your three mandatory corp units for free as long as they're three of the same type (3 x phase 1s, 3x fleet troopers and so on). You still have to pay points to upgrade those units but the basic standard size blob is free. Though this might work better at a higher points level game

That would really unbalance the game though, for example clones would benefit far more than droids.

Loved the Will interview and am hoping for some big changes in Legion. It’s an amazing game but I think the keyword bloat is getting out of hand.

We are currently on version 2.5.6 so this would be version 3. If they increased the points and thus the activation they would need to reduce time spent on turn 0.

I always thought Shatterpoint was a mis-step. They could have just made a skirmish version of Legion using the same minis. Allowing people to play both games with the same mini product is a win win. No need for entirely new minis that compete with an existing game.

That's kind of the tough thing. As someone who's played a lot of miniature games, I'd actually already classify Legion as a skirmish game in its scope. Thus, it makes a game like Shatterpoint an even harder sell. Legion is already a smaller size game (and the rules reflect this in the pace of play) and yet they've now made an even smaller game. That doesn't mean they can't exist in tandem. X-Wing and Armada have existed together for a long time and both are still loved. All that means is that Shatterpoint really needed to make itself really unique.

@dblevins343 I agree. It's just that Armada and X-wing are completely different scales and scope from one another. It would be like if they released a Star Wars space fighter combat game with new minis that are maybe 10% larger than the current X-wing minis. Legion and Shatterpoint are essentially the same game with different mechanics and a different aesthetic. They are competing with one another. Not good.

@holden88 I do agree that Legion and Shatterpoint have a lot more overlap than X-Wing and Armada. I just hope AMG doesn't modify Legion to help justify the existence of Shatterpoint. Legion is the better game IMO but I never liked MCP either and the two are very similar.

I would be ok with normal size games being 1000pts, with an additional operative slot and support slot and maaaayyybbeee a SUPER heavy slot along with adding in the big dawgs

I get what youre saying with the updated models. Im new to legion and started with the blizzard force box. I got 3 units of snowtroopers, i wouldnt be buying new sculpts

You are going to be very happy with the Rebel resculpts. I believe he said there were like 30 heads to choose from.

That I did hear, but I’m talking more in the poses than the heads… the old stormtroopers had 1 leader pose with every arm knife handing like a drill sergeant… I of course got creative and with a mix of Resin printed bits and green stuff now have more than 52 stormtroopers. I’m proud to say only 2 leaders still have the egregious “Knife hand” and do those 2 per fireteam have a Pauldron 4 of those are squad leaders (orange) 8 are sergeants (white)and 4 are corporals (grey)… 1 is a Sergeant Major or commander (red) depending on which lore explanation you subscribe to.

I try to make my army make sense rather than make it meta. I was a part of an army and want my forces to respond like an actual military force… meaning each unit of 5 is a fire team. Each one has a heavy weapon. Every two is a squad and each “800 point army” is a platoon.

I'm split; I don't think making the game bigger is necessarily the right financial choice (at best its "adding another lane to the highway" ie down the road the veterans once again have all their stormtroopers etc. and at worst its "Competing with 40k"/"alienating people with a higher cost of entry"); alongside the fact I don't believe veterans are the main money maker for popular wargames (historicals are a different matter) opposed to Starter Sets. Basically getting new people into the game is more important than keeping the old guard buying. On the other, adding a bit more points for some cooler toys would be nice. I know I'd love to be able to just add in my Sabre or a couple AT-RT's to my otherwise infantry-only GAR army (my vehicles always getting cut for points).
