I really like the anime version system where all trainers with 8 gym badges battle each other until a first place winner is founded to have the legit opportunity to challenge the Elite Four & regional champion. I kinda wish that this was implemented in the mainline games. At least they tried in Sword & Shield. Even though there's no Elite Four there.

Kanto: Ash definitely could have made the Top 4 at least if not for Team Rocket sabotage. Though winning the whole thing wouldn’t be likely. For all we know, AJ (the guy with the OP Sandshrew) could have been in the finals. Johto: Replace Totodile and Noctowl with Squirtle and Heracross and Ash could probably beat Harrison. Muk might be a decent choice too in place of Bayleef. Plus, Harrison’s Sneasel was a new capture; it might not have the experience to handle some of Ash’s veteran fighters. Charizard could obliterate it and Steelix before weakening Blaziken, leaving Squirtle and a couple others to finish him off. Hoenn: Just switch up the order of sending out Pokémon and I think Ash could win. Swellow would outspeed and outmaneuver Hariyama, Glailie would be needed for Sceptile, Corphish for Donphan, and have Grovyle, Torkoal, and Pikachu to beat the rest. Sinnoh: Not sure if Ash could overcome Hacker ex Machina. Sceptile, Pikachu, Heracross, Charizard, Snorlax, and maybe Gible might be his best chance. Darkrai and Latios is no joke. The rest are unknowns so it’ll likely come down to luck and fighting smart for Ash to win. Unova: First off, Ash already made it to the Top 8. And I bet he could have eaten Cameron. If Hydreigon was sent out first, Ash could just start with Pignite and Brick Break him into oblivion and roast Ferrothorn. Pikachu would destroy Swanna and Samurott. The rest could overwhelm Riolu/Lucario through sheer numbers. Ash could at least make the Top 4. And with his variety of Pokémon (and maybe a timely evolution), it might be possible to defeat Vergil and maybe with the Unova League. Kalos: Greninja could do with Night Slash and Toxic; splatter Charizard with Toxic and have the poison gradually wear him down. And save Goodra for near the end to set up Rain Dance; the weather would weaken fire moves and amp up Water Shuriken. That might be enough for Ash to beat Alain.

Buddy, all Greninja had to was jump over Blast Burn like he did against Sceptile's Frenzy Plant. After that, Charizard wouldn't immediately be able to close the gap, so either one more water shuriken or cut seals the deal.

There is no sign of AJ appearing again, beyond that Sandshrew that got flattened by Surge, so I like to imagine he got wrecked by Surge and realized he was just a big fish in a small pond. Since the plot device in Sinnoh is only seen using two Pokemon, we can presume the rest of his team was too weak. Relying too heavily on one or two Pokemon is a terrible strategy. With Unova, could we not simply have Ash shake off his plot induced stupidity and bring in Pokemon from previous regions? That should have been enough for him to win.

@@dragonstormxAJ didnt appear simply cause he was a character of the day, considering his training style he no doubt wouldve gotten all the badges, only reason he didnt is because pokemon writers like to introduce random characters that only appear for one episode

@@gggsh7 Or the writers realized he was a stupid character since his training consists pushing his Pokemon to the point where they'd injure themselves, especially his Sandshrew, who he told dunk itself in the water it is weak to. It is quite telling when we see Paul doing similar "training" with his Chimchar he is framed as being in the wrong for it.

Ash losing to virgil would have been far more acceptable than Cameron like Ash seriously lost to a guy who got late to the league, thought he needed 7 badges, and then only brought 5 pokemon to the battle 💀😭. It’s like Tobias slammed Ash so bad that the L stayed with him throughout Unova

Idk it’s not worth discussing a “cheater ash” team vs Tobias. Bring the zard who beat articuno, friggin Tauros going blow for blow w/ Annabel, an E4 level trainer, and her metagross, despite the type mismatch. It’s like the same arg used to defend Torkoal v registeel but actually good. And if sceptile can get the jump on deoxys speed, it prob coulda done meaningful chip vs lati if it was healthier. Ash does have enough legendary killer firepower in his bag to make it interesting

It depends on how good he is as a trainer. As well as his Pokemon team. I watched Lumoise Trainer Zac & Ronin Charizard having their version of Ash's team. And sometimes wonder if he could have won before Sun & Moon.

Some of the Ash Ketchum's Pokemon League battles are quite awful especially his match with a friggin cheater, Tobias, in the Lily of the Valley Conference that used some Mythical Pokemons like Darkrai and Latios.

In my version, Ash would have won two or three regional leagues before the Alola League and the Pokémon World Championship. In the Indigo League which it should have happened after the Orange Islands, Ash would have defeated Ritchie easily as he would make his Charizard obedient to Ash, Gary wouldn't have lost in the Indigo League as he and Ash would have a battle in the finals and then Ash's Charizard defeats Gary's Blastoise as it happened in the Johto League, but that would happened in the Indigo League. So, Ash would have won the Indigo League. In the Johto League he would end up being in the Top 4 losing to Harrison. In the Hoenn League he would end up being in the Top 2 losing to Steven Stone instead of Tyson. In the Sinnoh League, Ash vs Paul would have happened in the finals and Ash would still defeat Paul. So, Ash would have won the Sinnoh League. In the Unova League, Ash would have ended up being in the Top 2 losing to Iris, who would be a reccuring character, while Hilda would have appeared in the anime and she would Ash's female companion in Unova. Iris' personality would be similar to Korrina ans she would one of Ash's rivals in Unova. And finally, in the Kalos League Ash and Greninja would definitely defeat Alain and his Mega Charizard X. So, Ash would win the Kalos League. And he would still win the Alola League and the Masters 8. To conclude, Ash would have won 5 League in total and his rankings would be like this: Indigo League: Winner Johto League: Top 4 Hoenn League: Top 2/Runner Up Sinnoh League: Winner Unova League: Top 2/Runner Up Kalos League: Winner Alola League: Winner PWC & Masters 8: Winner

For Kanto: top 3 at best. For Johto: probably top 8 or 4 at best For Hoenn: if he had evolved Grovyle and Corphish, no doubt he'd be in the top 4 or even win. Sinnoh: T O B I A S Unova: top 4 or he'd make it to finals Kalos: he'd win, if his Greninja didn't have cut.

Kanto: maybe. Ash beats ritchie without team rocket bs, but any of the top 3 trainers probably beat him since its arguably the weakest version of ash. Jhoto: maybe, but im leaning towards no. It depends on if ash still has charizard or not. And seeing as how Harrison didnt have blaziken because it was too tired, i don't see how charizard would be fit to fight the guy who won. Hoenn: yes. If he sends out his team in a different order, and or grovyle evolves before the battle, ash wins. Sinnoh: If tobias didnt exist yes, and he would have. Assuming tobias does still exist and even if ash brings his strongest mons at the time, the answer is probably still no. Unova: no. Ash was so heavily nerfed intelligence wise theres no way he beats virgil. Plus unova is arguably his weakest team without krookodile. Kalos: obviously yes. Greninja with a better moveset probably gets the job done.

Ash definently couldn't have won the Kanto leauge, even with Charizard. It's noted that Charizard is a wealking (in comparison to other charizards) in Kanto. We also know Gary has always been the better trainer then Ash, and Charizard is what carried him in their fight. Well gary was defeated. So using the same logic you used with Richie, their's no way Ash could have won. Theirs also no telling when he'd face said trainer.
