In case you missed my last comment, I think hippos in the carboniferous would be a really cool episode because the climate would be fairly similar to what they're used to irl but they would have to directly compete with gigantic predatory amphibians for territory. Or if you can think of a more interesting animal to put in the carboniferous I'd be interested to see that too.

Ohhh I was considering this but in the permian! Hm, pre video premiere speculation: The absolutely absurd heat and their preference for avoiding deserts, coasts and rainforests is going to hold them back, but the part where nothing in the triassic is remotely equipped for highly intelligent pursuit predators that live in clans of upwards of 80-90 members is going to be a massive advantage.
@badlaamaurukehuКүн бұрын
Agreed. Plus, likely more efficient thermo-regulation and highly refined endurance. Also perceptual advantages like advanced sight(night vision), sound and smell combined into a high definition environmental awareness along with a fairly complex communication abilities. Also, flock behaviour of potential prey is thought to be a thing back then iirc so they would be effective.

Now for my analysis 1. Classic but very underated case of smaller and less dependents bodies no what most people think of evolution but it works. 2. A solitary life style coming from pack hunter ancestors is weird and i don't there is real life example and if you think about it males are more dangerous that female. 3. Why does things keep coming back to the water? I guess we shouldn't leave the water after all.
@x-track5190Күн бұрын
Reject land return to water 😂 *Badumts* Also a little thing about group animals evolving to be more solitary it’s rare but it happens One example is orangutans, which are unusually solitary for apes, despite presumably evolving from social ancestors. I don’t know why they evolved that way, but my guess would be some kind of long-term famine might have been involved, that may have made it impractical for them to stay in large groups. I’ve also speculated in the past that it might have started with them losing the instinct to groom one another, which is a vital part of primate social bonding that bonobos, chimpanzee and gorilas dew. But whatever the reason, the result is that modern orangutans don’t live in groups. Like Yeah the daughters dew visit there mother but not the males for what ever reason. As for the male female thing well Hyenas are female dominated they are stronguer and bigger then the males. And now back to the batcave
@brastionskywarrior695115 сағат бұрын
Some species have solitary members who live outside of groups for a time. In a harsh environment maybe these solitary members could overtime split off in an isolation event or through niche partitioning. Lions have males who wander if they are kicked out of a pride. I could see the larger female hyenas occurring since they would take care of the cubs. And being solitary it could be useful to be bigger to protect them. Im unaware if females being kicked out of clans is something that happens with hyrenas.

Marry Christmas! Slightly wild idea inbound but thought I'd be neat to suggest, at worst just a fun thought. But after or later on with Orbis Pogona, another cool idea for a speculative seed world could be the speculative creatures seen in assessing survival. The 3 ish per kind of animal, give or take things like the flood Rex, and maybe the spec evo of the fictional species if needed. Putting them on a seed world evironment with a base of plants and smaller critters to make a stable enough foundation [whatever is the bare necessary]. Slapped onto a diverse yet hostile world together then given time could be cool. A Magnifisi decent tends to scavenging a body of a Taekwandosaurus it has found, a creature it hasn't seen much before until recently. As example. This is a bit of a large spanding idea that would have a lot of moving parts. Could be fun however to wrap up the series like this in like some sort of season finally, or if something else was going to be done going forward instead of assessing survival to close the book. Or just randomally? Be this just a single fun episode in a bizarre world or a more long term series. Hell maybe not just entirely Assessing Survival but a tad bit of Orbis as well? To be seen. Either case I make this comment as I've come to appriciate this channel as lot. Just overall fun videos, but a gripe I had earlier in seeing the use of ai art, but that is now mostly replaced with the lack of such overall if not even better with art you've made [which is getting better!] or comissioned art or given art. Etc. Not a massive thing but a nice taste with overall fun content that's easy to think about a lot and enjoy. Cheers and best of luck lol

Hyena's are so underrated. Thanks to Disney, too many people seem to erroneously think they're just dumb scavengers instead of highly intelligent predators with fairly complex clan structures. I find it fitting that, with their intelligence, the biggest threat to their survival here (as with human survival) ends up being themselves, lol

So about the matchup between spotted hyenas and Herrerasaurus It’s only a full size Herrerasaurus that could probably kill a hyena in one hit At the same weight class a lone hyena is going to win a lot of those fights And even a full size Herrerasaurus could easily get its ankle broken by two or more hyenas together and then the fight is over

As they begin to starve from a lack of food, the prey population would go back up. We can see this balance in a lot of real ecosystems. Though they'd be invasive to that ecosystem so there would be a good chance of destroying their own ecosystem before achieving balance.

If some hyena species are more social or cooperative than the laughing hyenas, that already shows that they can adapt their social structures. I think they'd have quickly adapted to their new environment, and with no limitations on territory, clans would likely have spread out rather than fight. I suspect that they might even have diversified, leading to both smaller species and megafauna sized species. With their pack-hunting behaviour, even herrerasaurs would have found themselves challenged if confronted by 3 or 4 grizzly bear-sized hyenas.
