If the fa want continuity then carsley has to be given the opportunity as he won under 21 euros and would be in a good position regarding bringing players through. I know most fans would want a big name but in what world do big managers from top leagues ever take a international job or won a euros or world cup. Most top managers haven't been top players, just because they played at the top level doesn't make them top managers!

England hired one of the greatest managers ever in Fabio Capello (4 league wins with Milan, La Liga and Champions League with Real plus titles with Juventus and Roma), but it didn't work with a pool of players who on paper should have easily won a major tournament...it's not the easy fix that some think it is. international managers don't get games for months outside of tournaments and have very little time to work with the players in training. Whatever people think of Southgate there's no argument that England are in a better place now than they've been for half a century due to the setup and structures that have been put in place. Before Gareth was given the job getting to a quarter-final or semi was seen as a massive achievement, sometimes we didn't even qualify! As you say Carsley has won big tournaments with the players who will be coming through... he's definitely worth considering.

Our biggest problem is the huge weight on our players backs that is winning our fist trophy since 66, we need to go all out to win something then perhaps some of the pressure will be off the players and they can relax a bit, to do this we need a tried and tested elite manager who has experience in the biggest matches. I think we can then look at Howe or somebody else English further down the line.

People turning their noses up at Carsley are exactly the reason why England won’t win anything for the foreseeable future- short sightedness. Spain have already set the blueprint; introduce a young, progressive coach at u18 level. Create a positive style of play and winning culture. Move them through the ranks along with the players as they progress through to u21 and senior football, so that there’s an identity and cohesion. Rinse and repeat the cycle.

My only concern is whether he could manage the egos of the senior players and whether the media would keep quiet when and if he dropped a senior player or a star player when they weren't performing. As just happened at the tournament in Germany, would Lee have the Balls to drop Kane, Bellingham and or Foden? Because Southgate lacked the courage to do what needed to be done.
