I'm amazed at how few hours are actually dedicated to trial action in Manhattan. 9:30 to 4:30, less 1-1/4 hours for lunch, is only 5-1/2 hours per day. Every Wednesday is off (!), some other days off, and scheduled trial hours often taken up by extraneous hearings. Federal courts (Florida), generally go 8:30 to 5:30, five days a week, less lunch, for 7-3/4 or 8 hours of trial. Sometimes courts run overtime for hearings, etc. Naturally there are short breaks during the day.
